Customer Reviews of Mutiny on the Bounty (Two-Disc Special Edition)
not as expected I read the reviews of Mutiny on the Bounty HD and decided to buy this one as my first HD DVD. I happen to love the movie. Both this edition and the original. However, unlike other reviewers, neither of my HD players would play this movie. I returned the first one and explained the problem. I was sent another one, but it also would not play. One player showed "NO DISC" and the other just showed "BAD". I am extremely disappointed, to say the least. My players play all other DVD's. I ordered the right region. I wish I could say more. <
>ACTUALLY, I CAN SAY MORE: I AM AN IDIOT. MY PLAYER WAS NOT AN ACTUAL HD PLAYER, IT WOULD ONLY UPCONVERT A REGULAR DVD TO NEAR HD QUALITY. WE THOUGHT WE WERE BUYING AN ACTUAL HD PLAYER. NOW, I WILL JUST BUY THE REGULAR VERSION AS IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES. BE AWARE AND NOT BE LEAD BY A SALESMAN TO BUY WHAT YOU DIDN'T ASK FOR!!

Lewis Milestone (1895-1980) directed this color-drenched spectactular , nominated for seven academy awards , including Best Picture . Filmed before in 1935 and again in 1984's *The Bounty* , the gripping story centers on two men . Marlon Brando (1924-2004) plays first officer Fletcher Christian as a dandy transformed into a man of action . Trevor Howard (1918-1988) is Captain William Blight , uncompromising in his command or his cruelty *Fear is (my) best weapon * , Blight proclaims . But it's also the most costly ,driving men to desperation and mutiny . Richard Harris (1930-2002) , Hugh Griffith (1912-1980) and Richard Haydn (1905-1985) also star in this epic adventure . Greatest Sea Story at it's Greatest
Having read the trilogy of books regarding the 'Bounty', not to mention many other historical accounts of the voyage, having spent over a year building its model out of wood, and having seen all three of the major production films, I consider myself to be bit of an expert on the subject of the Bounty. There is no doubt that this version of the movie is the finest. Brando captures the character of Christian just as one would imagine it to be, displaying a mixture of wisdom, sensitivity, wit, and toughness that Gibson and Gable can't match. Just like Connery is 'the James Bond', so too is Brando 'the Fletcher Christian'. Similarly, Trevor Howard plays the most accurate Bligh with a look that is convincingly right out of Nelson's navy, and an accurately menacing and unforgiving personna. And the scene where the Tahitians put on their dance, with the hauntingly beautiful drum beat, is simply not done better in any other film. You should watch all three film versions of this story as they all have their merits. But you will keep coming back to this one and that is what having this DVD is all about!
