Frank Lloyd's 1935 version of the famous story is broadly superior to later attempts. Charles Laughton is brilliant as the harsh captain of the 18th-century British naval vessel Bounty, and Clark Gable gives an intelligent performance as Fletcher Christian, the first mate burdened with leading a mutiny in the South Seas. This is one of those archetypal stories that seems to invite a variety of creative and moral interpretations (see both the 1962 and 1984 versions, the latter called The Bounty), but this first shot across the bow still seems truest and least massaged for hidden meaning. --Tom Keogh

A Classic
I watched this movie and can honestly saay that it was worth my time. For the time period the casting and acting was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is definitely worth buying to extend your classics collection.

The Best of the Bounties
Even though it tends to drag and the abuse gets a bit repetitive, this is by far the best adaptation of the famous British Navy story. Gable and Laughton are perfect for their respective roles and the period is brilliantly displayed. I'm not a huge Gable fan. This and Gone W/ the Wind are abt all I like him in.

Mutiny on the Bounty
MGM's adaptation of the famous Nordhoff/ Hall book is given top shelf treatment here with the sneering Laughton as the definitive Bligh, and the studios biggest star, Gable, playing Christian with gusto (and, notably, without his trademark mustache). Grand, sweeping entertainment suitable for the whole family.
