Can't Get Enough
Three award-winning new musicals, presented in 20-minute chunks means that you don't get a real feel of the story, but do get a taste of the music and (on Enter the Guardsman only) the wit of the actual dialogue. Guardsman deserved the win, but Three Musketeers has some wonderful moments and is a show I would love to see staged. Red, Red, Rose has some charm, but without an idea of the story, the songs must stand on their own, and leave a little to be desired -- at least in comparison to the other two.

Diamond in the rough
I also had the oppurtunity to see this show in Ashland, twice, and I adore it. Aside from being a huge fan of Muiscals in general, I especially enjoyed the plot and music "Enter the Guardsman" had to offer. While it is true that no song truly stands out, it is not due to the fact that they are dull. Quite the contrary. "she's a little off tonight" is charming and a personal favorite, "waiting in the wings" is a beautiful ballad, and "Roses" is the quintescences of that corney-but-gotta-love-it musical spirit. Highly enjoyable. If you ever get the chance, see the play. (OSF rocks!)

Enter The Guardsman!! rest :(
It's really too bad this has selections from 3ree and Red Red Rose on it. They're really quite bores. But, until someone records the full score of the delightful Enter The Guardsman, I'm stuck with just the few tantalizing selections available on this CD.
