Customer Reviews of Murder By Phone
THIS MOVIE'S ORIGINAL TITLE IS "BELLS" I've watched my video copy of this movie twice. Enjoyed it both times. Plot may be kind of crazy, but so what? It's still a fun movie. The plot has been described successfully by another reviewer, so I'll not waste time describing it again. <

>Main reason I'm writing this "review". Here in the United States, this movie is known as MURDER BY PHONE. It was released on Warner Home Video. It runs 80 mins. I have a copy of it. BUT, THIS MOVIE WAS A CANADIAN-MADE FEATURE AND THE ORIGINAL RUNNING TIME WAS 95 MINS. IT WAS EDITED BY 15 MINS. FOR ITS AMERICAN RELEASE. HOW DO I KNOW THIS, YOU MAY ASK? WELL, SINCE YOU'VE GOT THIS FAR I WILL GLADLY EXPLAIN. I ALSO HAVE A VIDEO COPY ON THE ASTRAL VIDEO LABEL FROM CANADA. RELEASED IN 1983. RUNNING TIME IS 95 MINS AS STATED ON BACK OF THE BOX. TITLE ON FRONT OF BOX IS "BELLS". WE AMERICANS WHO LIKE THIS MOVIE HAVE BEEN CHEATED OUT OF 15 MINUTES THAT ARE IN THE CANADIAN PRINT! UGH! <
> The Astral Video of this movie from Canada has been out-of-print for a LONG time. I stumbled upon this un-edited version by accident. Now I wouldn't sell it for a king's ransom. It seems that hardly anyone else who likes this movie even knows an original print of BELLS was put on video. WELL I'M HERE TO TELL YOU IT WAS. AND IS. BECAUSE I STILL HAVE IT AND THE TAPE PLAYS GREAT.
BLACKTHORNE'S GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDSON?
You can't help but be crazy about this crazy movie! It is like seeing Pilot Major John Blackthorne's great great great grandson, showing up in our time with a Phd, and displaying all the best characteristics of his sexy and suave, great great great grandfather. Of course, you WOULD think of Blackthorne. Richard Chamberlain had just returned from making his hit television mini-series, "Shogun," filmed in the exotic world of Japan, when he starred in this amusing murder mystery.

>Richard Chamberlain is sexy, sensitive, smart, and totally in control as Dr. Nat Bridger, University professor, turned sleuth, investigating the murder of his brightest University student. Forget the story-line, and let yourself enjoy a contemporary, complex, charming, and very likeable Nat Bridger. This movie really demonstrates why Richard chamberlain is such a great actor. He has a unique ability to develop, interesting and unforgettable characters in spite of a mediocre script. By the time this movie concludes, you will be crazy about the fascinating Dr. Nat Bridger.

>Ridley Taylor knows how to dazzle her man. Sara Botsford and Richard Chamberlain engage in some very steamy love scenes, causing the screen to steam up, even more than usual, as RT and Nat seem to spend alot of time in the shower. His best scene and line is when he gives Ridley an alluring, sensual look and says, "I knew what you were offering." He is dashing, daring, debonair, and deliciously Blackthorne with his great beard, masculine bearing, and sexy samurai personage. With Patience, Process, and Perseverance...maybe Blackthorne made it out of the Japans after all...chuckle!
yawn.
This movie was just plain dull so don't bother. I am a Richard Chamberlain fan and after seeing Shogun and The Thorn Birds this movie is just a waste of his talent and my time.
