Customer Reviews of Mortal Kombat Advance
Ultimate Mortal Kombat for Game Boy Advance The fighting game known as Mortal Kombat returns with a portable game for Game Boy Advance, which features 23 selectable fighters from Liu Kang, Sub Zero, and Scorpion to Smoke, Noob Saibot and Jade. The game itself is exactly like the Ultimate Mortal Kombat game which was released years ago for home systems. The fun part about the game is that every single move, maneuver, friendship and fatality is in the game, but brutalities and animalities are not (no one should care). Also, because of the limited buttons of Game Boy Advance, there is only one punch button and one kick button making each move easy to learn! The game might sound stupendous now, until you play it, the characters are rather slow and sometimes the animation jerks! With the one player mode you chose your fighter and proceed in one of four ladder tournaments, finally battling the half man / half horse Motaro and the evil Emperor; Shao Kahn!
I love Mortal Kombat, BUT...
I know a lot of people like myself enjoy the MK games. However, this game just doesn't live up to expectations. The control is absolutely horrendous. It's a challenge just to pull off basic moves like a sweep or jump kick. There are a lot of bugs in the game- for example listen as Sub-Zero jumps, he sounds like Kitana. A lot of the sounds don't even work half the time, and I've even had opponents in the corner and it won't register hits. They have obviously rushed this game out the door for Xmas, without finishing it. What a disapointment with Street Fighter for the GBA being great. Overall, check this one out only if you are a big MK fan.
EGM's lowest rated game ever.
If I remember correctly, in an old issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (probably the most respected magazine for console gaming), Dan Hsu gave this game a rating of a 0/10; making this to my knowledge, the lowest rated game ever ever reviewed by them. He spoke of numerous glitches in combat itself and combos not being added up correctly... just a blatantly terrible game.
