Monster Rancher 3 features cel-shading technology to give it a real cartoon look and feel. Players can create a stable full of monsters using ordinary CDs, DVDs, or other video games. The game generates monsters unique to each set of data, and a player can then raise, train, breed, and enter them into battle with other monsters. The first game that utilizes Sony's Picture Paradise technology, Monster Rancher 3 lets players take pictures with their Sony digital cameras and transfer them to monsters in the game.

Customer Reviews of Monster Rancher 3
Monster Mania! This was another great game by Tecmo in the Monster Rancher series. If you liked the previous two games, you will love this one.
I gave it a 5 because I still play it, there is a lot to do once you beat the main game, if only making new monsters and unlocking all the special ones. However, I am disappointed that you cannot "breed" monsters exactly like you could in the old game. But the heart method is pretty nice.
I recommend this game if you like sim type games, or if you liked the previous 2 games. Hopefully they will make another one :)
Excellent game
In the mid-late nineties, Monster Rancher was released on the Playstation. Unfortunately, the game was NEVER very popular, and slipped under just about everybody's radar. Fortunately, I was one who discovered the game, and was extremely impressed by its unmatched uniqueness. And come 2001, and the third installment came out! Read on for my review.
Graphics: Obviously not the best you'll find on the Playstation 2 (not everyone likes cel-shading), but they're certainly better than those found in a lot of other games. 4/5
Play Control: Outside the battles, the control is basically a series of point and click menus. The in-battle controls are weird at first, but you'll adjust in time. 3.5/5
Challenge: Here's a game that just keeps getting harder as you go along. You must win tournaments to increase your rank as a monster breeder. As you go up in rank, so do the challenges. This is NOT an easy game. 4.5/5
Theme/Fun: Amazing game. You can use CDs to get monsters, breed them, train them, battle them, take them on expeditions, the fun almost never stops! And, it's got plenty of hidden stuff, too. There is even more diversity here than in the first games. If you're one of those poor souls who ones a Playstation 2, but haven't found the perfect game yet, this is a very fun and highly recommended game, AND IT'S CERTAINLY NO POKEMON CLONE! 4.75/5
Sound/Music: The music is of a very happy and upbeat sort, and the sounds match their respective causes well. 3.75/5
Storyline: Train your monsters so you can become the best monster breeder in the world. It's a simple story, but it works. 3.5/5
Originality: Being able to put CDs into your system to get monsters is just too cool! Some CDs are unique, and have a monster you can get from ONLY that CD (one example is Metallica's self-titled "black" album.) This game, contrary to popular belief, IS NOT A POKEMON CLONE! This was released first, and the style of gameplay is totally different. 5/5
Replay Value: There are so many different monsters out there you can try training, that the replay value is virtually infinite. 5/5
Overall score: 4.25/5
This is an excellent game. Though it was never wildly popular, it has certainly stood the test of time. If you own a Playstation 2 and you've never played this game, you're missing out on a lot.
A Good Game
this game is fun. there are new monsters to unlock, the battle system is good, and the story line is good too. but lolocking monsters can take a long time if you have alot of C.D's. And 1 thing i thought is really good, once you unlock a monster there is a profile of which monsters you get and if a monster you really like dies, you can unlock it for the profile. i kinda wish they didn't take out the Phonix monster from moster Racher 2.
For the power of the monster i suggest you power up 1.) life 2.)speed 3.) power. i've done best with the 3 things. over all the game is fun.
