As the name implies, this is a casino game with a Monopoly theme, and the bright, clean look of the board game works well for the slot machines, craps tables, roulette wheels, and other casino favorites players can access. The back of the box goes a little overboard when it states there are over 40 games with more than 200 variations. There is variety with some games like poker, which includes several variations of five-card draw, Texas and Omaha hold 'em, and seven-card stud. But "variations" for the slot machines consist only of different betting levels. Regardless, there are a lot of games packed on this CD-ROM, including a fun version of blackjack, pai gow poker, keno boards, 10 video poker machines, and a money wheel in addition to the games we've already mentioned.
If the computer opponents aren't challenging enough you can take your bankroll to the Internet by challenging other Monopoly Casino owners online. Poker still isn't as fun when you aren't siting directly across from a living, breathing opponent, but it comes close, and you never have to worry about cheating. The only thing we wished for was more feedback when we won a game of video poker or had a lucky spin of the reels at the slot machines, but that didn't seem to stop us from whiling away many pleasant hours with Monopoly Casino. --T. Pros:
- Plenty of games to keep casino fans occupied
- Tournament mode adds some much-needed tension to the game
- Monopoly-themed graphics look nice
- The card games are fun, but passive games such as the slots and the money wheel just aren't as fun without real money

Customer Reviews of Monopoly Casino (Jewel Case)
Tightest Slots I've Ever Played!!!! Graphics and sound are done pretty well. However, on Chairman of the Board and Once Around, I blew my $15,000 bankroll and only hit the bonus round three times! $125 is the most I've hit on any one pull, and that's betting $45! I thought Atlantic City's slots were tight, but these take the cake. In all honesty, this would be a pretty decent slot sim if they were loosened up a bit. It can get boring playing a slot sim when the machines are too loose, but it's REALLY boring if you never hit! I bought this game because I enjoy the video slots with bonus rounds. It's very disappointing to never get to the bonus rounds.
A disappointment
I collect Monopoly memorabilia and I like casino software, so this seemed like a perfect fit. What a letdown. A previous reviewer reviewed the slots, so I won't get into that except to say that I played each of the three Monopoly themed slots for 30 minutes each and I got each bonus round once. One of the reasons that someone would buy this software is to play the bonus round, so I would think it would be programmed to come up more often than in real (reel?) life. The other games are lackluster. Nothing to get excited about. If you're looking for good casino software, try Hoyle Casino. Hoyle's is the best software by far.
Close, but not close enough
The main draw of this product is the inclusion of Monopoly multi-line slot games that have become immensely popular in real casinos. The frequency of getting to the bonus round for these 3 games (Chairman of the Board, Once Around and Reel Estate) is similar to the real thing. Unfortunately, there are some programming problems that make each game rather annoying if one is expecting this product to duplicate the slots in actual casinos.
Chairman of the Board: The disclaimer on many slot machines, "only highest amount paid," when two winning combinations result should read, for this game, "only lowest amount paid." The treasury symbol will even cancel out the bonus round if the two combinations appear on the same payline. Moreover, most spins result in at least one column with identical symbols on each row. This never happens in the real game. Finally, the dice symbol (at least two needed for scatter-pay in the real game) is meaningless for this product. There is a payout if the dice symbols are on the same payline, but it is meager, not even a push.
Once Around: The chance and community chest symbols that function in scatter-pays for the real game do not do so for this product. There is a payout, but only if these symbols are on the same payline. In addition, the bonus round tallies the score much too quickly to be enjoyed; the property names aren't even verbally announced, nor are the house awards. Perhaps the missing animation was too expensive to include, but I'd prefer the animation here over that used for the card games, where you have to wait a good minute for Mr. Monopoly to conclude dealing the cards to each player.
Reel Estate: In the real game, repeat visits to the bonus round will cumulate, hopefully, in attaining a monopoly. For example, in the real game, if one's first bonus round lands him/her on Park Place, and the next bonus round lands him/her on Boardwalk, one gets to spin again because a monopoly has been completed. This key factor in the game is not included in the product under review.
In short, the programmers either never understood the bonus round and scatter-pays for the multi-line games, or were too sloppy and/or careless in their attempt to duplicate the casino game for this product. In any event, the one thing that could have distinguished this product from others, making available a real Monopoly slot game with bonus round(s) for the PC, is spoiled by shoddy workmanship.
