The uninitiated may have trouble following the plot: strange revelations abound (e.g., Relena discovers Zechs is her long-lost brother) and characters disappear for a dozen or more episodes, only to return when a deus ex machina is needed. But Gundam fans aren't interested in tightly woven story lines or credible character arcs, and Gundam Wing delivers plenty of battles between the splendidly designed robots. It's a classic confrontation between good guys with invincible weapons and soulless bad guys who can't hit the broad side of a robot. (Rated 13 and older: occasional profanity, robot vs. robot violence) --Charles Solomon

Customer Reviews of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing - Complete Operations Boxed Set
The absolute mecha experience. Superb characterization and art. I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical about Gundam Wing. I'm not too fond of mecha, but due to the overwhelming response Gundam Wing has been receiving from anime fans, I felt obliged to check it out. <

>After I popped the first DVD in the player, I was greeted by a boring narration on the political history of the colonies and the Alliance. Now I hate politics, and I fell asleep before I could get anywhere past the narration. Determined to see what the fuss is about, I tried again. This time, I got to finish the first ep... and that first ep prompted me to see the rest of the series. <

>Although Gundam Wing tends to veer towards more political themes, the story branches out quickly into several engaging character-oriented subplots. The subplots intersect at certain points, and subsequently form the whole story -- much like putting the pieces of a puzzle together. Given this story-telling style, all the characters are portrayed distinctly and given ample development. It's very hard to further describe the plot without giving away spoilers. <

>The art and animation are nothing short of superb. All the characters are drawn beautifully, and there are lots of pretty boys for anime fangirls to drool over. The mecha designs are very impressive and detailed as well. Even non-mecha fans won't have a hard time appreciating the Gundams' magnificence. <

>Overall, Gundam Wing is a worthwhile series which combines a deep and complex plot, well-conceptualized characters, and explosive mecha action into one spectacular package.
Cynical viewer
Gundam Wing is only popular because of the drooling fangirl favorite bishonen are in it. This show however well animated and developed(that's sarcasm) is terribly dull and I couldn't watch more than five minutes of it when it was on television.
<
>This show is vastly overrated like a majority of the so called good anime. It's faults are overlooked due to the fact hat this show is anime it's suddenly considered good. No matter how weakly constructed the storyline or character development is.

>Sucn undeserving fanfare for such a piece of turd.
IT'S GOOD AND APPEALING IN MANY WAYS
This is the first gundam series I saw and I personally liked it. Wars are mostly political problems with the use of force to basically force your opinion as a truth. The reason why I gave this series a 3 star rather than anything higher is because some factors in the series were a bit way too out there. The idea that just 1 machines can easily take out over 50, is just pushing it to me. As well as 5 young teenager being just super soldiers at such a young age. At least in Gundam Seed & Seed Destiny you got teenagers who are genetically superior to the point where they have the capabilities of an adult. Either way, I think it's still a good animation just too pricy if you ask me.
