Rare 70s Italian-style Funk with sideorders of Jazz and Rock Maybe it's just my musical ignorance, but I've never associated Italy with cool groove-lounge funk. I still don't, but this album has almost changed my perception. <

>There are some seriously funky songs on this album, though not in the traditional sense. Unfortunately, there are also some cardboard "maybe-recycling-isn't-always-good" songs. However, the instrumentation almost always catches your ears, even if you've heard versions of these songs before. When it's good, you love the feeling of having stumbled upon a rare groove track that no one has heard before. When it's okay, it's decent background music. When it's bad, you start wondering whether or not you cleaned up the dishes from dinner and decide to check. <

>Stand outs: The Capricorn College tracks; if anyone finds an album by this group, let me know, I've been searching for 6 years since I bought this album. On "Capricorn College", flute searching over the funky horns, while the rhythm section drives along and the piano meanders all over. "Mab Mystic Woman" has a soft piano over the questioning bass line before the floating flute and fuzz guitar break through, forcing everyone to drop one, then return to the opening theme before traveling again; love the arrangment on this one. "Also Sprach Zarathrustra", by Ciato's & Ciato's, is another outstanding track; who'd have thought the theme 2001 could tickle one's funky bone? The chukka wah-guitar and rhythm provides a backdrop for a some funky organ licks that makes me wish the organist would take over the song into a greasy classical funk opus. <

>Bottom Line: If you're looking for some cool, unusual groove tracks, but don't mind some filler, then a definite buy. If you're looking for a great musical experience, then this will tickle your fancies a plenty, but might tease you more often than please you. 4 stars because I'm biased by the 5 or 6 outstanding tracks that remain staples on my jukebox, probably a 3 overall. If only they combined the best from Mo' Plen 1 & 2, you'd have very close to a 5 star album. <
