Customer Reviews of Mission Kashmir
Mission Hit! Mission Kashmir may not seem like a great hit at first, but after you see it, you will definitely love it! The music and dancing steals the show, with the sensuous dance moves of Hrithik Roshan: Equivalent to America's John Travolta, and the beautiful, caressing style of Bollywood Siren Preity Zinta: Equivalent to America's Christina Aguilera, minus the sexuality. The action is superb, and the acting is wonderful. Sonali Kulkarni shows her vivid emotions brilliantly as a torn mother, and Sanjay Dutt makes you believe that he is actually the character, and not just an actor. Jackie Shroff is a pro at being a shady villain, which not many Bollywood stars can do, exception of 'Road' with bombshell newcomer Payal Rohatgi. Yet, do not let children see this: It is definitely R-Rated material. Once a child is 12, then watch it with them, and if they are 15, they may see it alone. Definitely rent it first, and then buy it!
I Love Bollywood
I have been watching foreign movies for a long time but this was my first venture into the Bollywood movie genre. I love everything about it, the story the acting, directing and expecially the music. I have since watched several other Bollywood and I like Mission Kashmir best. It seems to appeal to a variety of ages and even to many people who have never watched a foreign film before. Ignore the only negative review on this movie, the person just doesn't like to the genre. If you don't like Bollywood, this won't be your favorite. And if you are averse to watching good-looking talented people dance, the movie won't be to your liking either.
This "Mission" Never Quite Comes Together...
I'd read good review of "Mission Kashmir" and wanted to see it, despite knowing that it was a flop in India. Now I understand why. The film would have worked great as a dramatic action film, even with the melodrama in it. I know that Indian films are known for their musical scenes, but the musical scenes in this film fall totally flat and are completely out of place with the rest of the film. Some of the musical scenes would work well, if the film were a comedy, and the others would work only in a cheesy Bollywood romance. Only one musical scene has any choreography worth noting; the other scenes are very mediocre. Besides the tone, the placement and occurances of some of the musical scenes are poorly chosen. In one scene, a terrorist somehow finds his way into a TV studio to dance with a long-lost childhood love.
As for other elements of the film, the scenery is nice, the dialogue is decent, and the script is smart, but the photography and camera angles are below par. The film also uses too many cheesy and unbelievable dream sequences. Some of the action scenes are straight out of B-movie thrillers, too. There are a few nice visual images, however, scattered through the film.
Overall, the director doesn't seem to know what path he wants the film to take, a melodramatic drama with action or a (somewhat) cheesy love story with an unbelievable tacked-on feel-good ending.
Also, the film is rated "R" for violence only, but I was quite surprised because I've seen "PG-13" films with more violence, sex, nudity, and swearing than this. Perhaps giving it an "R" rating was a lame attempt to make it seem like a serious grown-up film.
