This dinnerware is part of Mikasas Maxima series of fine china, which appears to be as delicate as bone china but is especially strong and dense due to the addition of a mineral called Alumina. Maxima pieces are resistant to chipping and thermal shock so they travel from the oven to the freezer with ease and are dishwasher-safe as well. Maxima china is guaranteed against breaking, crazing, or chipping for two years from the date of purchase. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Reviews of Mikasa Grand Prix Dinnerware 20-Piece Sets, Service for 4
Pleased with Purchase / original price too high The original price looks like a bad joke but I am very pleased with what I got for around...
Especially the fact that you can take the dinnerware from the freezer into the oven is great. Not that I always need to do this, but it is convenient to be able to place the plate directly into the oven.
Nice dinnerware; completely fictional MSRP
You'd be hard-pressed to find a nicer dinnerware set than this for the price. It's well designed, and beautfully finished--unlike a lot of off brands with their so-so glazing and bumpy surfaces. However, don't be fooled by Mikasa's fictional list price. For some reason, Mikasa and all the other china/stoneware/dinnerware makers feel they need to inflate their MSRPs to laughable heights. I can't imagine too many people are fooled by this tactic, but don't jump in too quickly without getting a comparison price. Remember that a high percentage discount from a fictional price is worthless if you still paid too much.
