Customer Reviews of Mickey Blue Eyes
Dark comedy couldn't have been funnier than this I have been fascinated by mob stories (both the funny & the serious types) since I was a kid. Aren't we all won over by Godfather, Good Fella, Casino, Analyse This, Donnie Brasco, Sopranos (TV series)? Mickey Blue Eyes is a commendable addition to all those offerings. Hugh Grant is at his usual best playing what's he's good at, a charming & stuttering Englishman. James Caan, James Fox deserve to be credited for playing solid supporting roles, Jeanna Tripplehorn adds to the female interest. You would notice a lot of Sopranos regulars in this movie as well, & even the blond from Monica's Closet in a completely different disguise. Many funny moments & wickedly funny at times. Good soundtrack as what we would expect from Little Italy, reminding the viewers that this is all and all a mob movie. I guess the song, "We Are Family" says it all, eh? Recommended viewing.
Mickey Blue Eyes
I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but was pleasantly surprised by the clever dialogue and interesting plot. Hugh Grant was at his best as a bumbling, likeable auctioneer who falls in love with the daughter of a mob boss, excellently played by James Caan, in one of his best turns on screen in years. A very funny movie, with Grant much looser than his previous characters, especially when he tries to imitate tough guy talk to convince the bad guys he's "jus one of da boyz." Jeannie Tripplehorn plays the love interest and is a knockout in her red dress. If you liked Knotting Hill, you're going to get a bang out of Mickey Blue Eyes.
Nice romantic comedy.
This film combines romance, comedy and the Mafia quite well. Hugh Grant is romantically involved with a beautiful girl whose father (James Caan) is a NYC mob figure. She tries to hide it from him, but eventually he finds out and becomes innocently involved with her father and the mob. Enjoyable flick.
