Customer Reviews of Metamorphosis
Better than i thought! Ok well let me begin with saying that i didn't like hilary duff in the beginning. I actually really liked Lizzie McGuire but when Hilary decided to become a recording artist i was a little iffy...how much better or worse could she get from "I can't wait"? Well the answer is quite a bit better! Here is a list of the tracks and my non-biast opinion (well im 13 so i dunno how that works out:-D) I rate them from 1-10, 10 being best, here it goes:
1. So Yesterday - 8 / okay this is a pretty good song but i've heard it too many times on the radio so im bored with it. Its about a girl getting over her boyfriend, it does have a pretty catchy chorus though...the only part i really dislike about this song is the line "if the light is off then it isn't on" it was pretty stupid.....
2. Coming Clean - 6 / Way too slow if you ask me and i really dont get what the song is about. Its quite depressing, not what i was expecting from Hilary (but then again she didn't write any of the songs). I usually skip this one
3. Workin' It Out - 8 / This is a pretty good song, its about working out your problems and the chorus is way catchy. I gave it an 8 cuz its also a bit slow.
4. Little Voice - 10 / This is one of my fav songs, its fun, upbeat, and her voice sounds pretty good in it too! Its about her concience telling her to stay away from this guy that she wants to get back together with. The words are comical and catchy!
5. Where Did I Go Right? - 8 / At first i didn't like this song but it grew on me, its about how everything in her life is always wrong but after he came everything was made better. The only problem i have with this song is because it conflicts with what she says in "Inner Strength" about how you shouldn't need a guy to make you happy. This song makes it sound like she needs the guy to make her life good. All in all its a pretty cute song.
6. Anywhere But Here - 10 / This song grew on me 2 and now its one of my favs! A lil slow at the beginning but it get catchy-er as u go. Its a fun song about how she doesn't want to be anywhere but where she is with this guy. Its a really cute song!
7. The Math - 10 / This is probably my FAV song. Its fast, catchy, fun, and comical! Shes telling a guy to stop trying to figure her out and just enjoy the relationship, its got quite a few comical lines that will stick in ur head for ahwile. Potential next single!
8. Love Just Is - 8 / Hmm...kinda lame in my opinion. Way too slow and kinda korny. Its about how in love she is and how you can't explain. Its kinda sweet and the chorus is catchy but its not amazing...
9. Sweet Sixteen - 8 / Her sister Haylie wrote this song, and its pretty good. Its kinda silly and its all about haveing fun cuz now your 16. I dont really like it much but its a fun song for a party or something...
10. Party Up - 10 / Another one of my fav songs, fast and catchy! The lyrics are ok but this is a fun song to dance to! Shes telling this guy to come and get her before shes gone. I thought it was a little mature but hey i know 8 year olds who listen to Christina Aguilera (after her transformation).
11. Metamorphosis - 6 / I think this song is so stupid. I guess they put it in there cuz it went with the CD's name but this song seriously sucks. Its kinda techno-sounding and the lyrics aren't catchy at all. One of the reasons i only gave 4 stars to the CD...
12. Inner Strength - 7 / Ok this isn't much of a song...Haylie also wrote this one. its only like under 2 minutes long and its just about finding your inner strength which is cool but its kinda boring...
13. Bonus Why Not - 9 / I liked this song as soon as it came out cuz its fun and catchy. What i really liked was that they re-wrote the first verse. You've probably heard it on Disney Channel, very fun song!
Okie so that was my review on the songs! The only big thing i didn't like about this CD is that it was much more mature than i was expecting from Hilary Duff. Some of the songs are depressing and quite a few of them are about boys and breakups, i mean the girl is only 15 how many MAJOR breakups could she have had (besides aaron carter). I guess i was expecting a lot more fun pop songs especially since her fan base is mostly made of kids and pre-teens. The CD grew on me after awhile and i liked it a lot. I'm looking forward to whatever Ms.Duff has in store for us next!
It's not bad, it's just blah
I'm not anti-Hilary Duff and I don't hate her. I just can't believe she is in the music business!! Anyone could sing the songs she sings! They are pretty much all on the same tone and the same few notes. If you want to buy something phenomenal, I wouldn't reccomend this album.
Okay considering it's a debut...
After hearing pleasant songs like "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean" on the radio, and after hearing Hilary and her sis Haylie's take on "Our Lips Are Sealed", (even though the latter is not found on this CD), I decided to purchase this CD. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed, but I will give Hilary credit, since this is her first full-length album attempt. I do like the fact that she didn't go completely over-the-top popped out. She kept her sound more contemporary, versus too poppy, which I think was one of the keys to this album being a multi-platinum success, the fact that it was NOT a cheesy pop album (in terms of production.)
Really, the only songs I found enjoyable were the two tracks I mentioned earlier (Come Clean & So Yesterday). I was very surprised, because looking in the liner notes, there were plenty of great songwriters and producers on this album, like John Shanks, Kara DioGuardi, and The Matrix, (among others) and over half of these songs are filler-ish.
I did actually enjoy "Workin' it Out," one of the better songs on this album. "Little Voice" was a little too young for me, but I could see it being appealing to a younger crowd. "Where Did I Go Right?" is a sweeter, softer song. "Party Up" did appeal to me. "Inner Strength" was a big disappointment.. seemed like a good message, but it's basically a recited poem to music. It's only a minute and a half-- not much of a song.
I think this album was to really test the waters for Hilary as a recording artist. Even though her voice is very thin, it seems to work on most of these songs. I've heard some of her newer material and her voice has become stronger, so I think her second time around will be worth a listen!
