Singer-songwriter Dave Mustaine is a charismatic figure, and one of speed metal's most literate elder statesman, as demonstrated by his astute, witty comments in the DVD's brief interview section. Also on the DVD, the 105-minute concert is augmented by additional footage of five tunes (including "Kill the King" and "A Tout le Monde," dedicated to the victims of the September 11 attacks), shot in grainy black and white. Rude Awakening is the first official Megadeth live concert release, and if it's also the last, it will remain a testament to the band's durability and musical ability. --Kevin Filipski

Customer Reviews of Megadeth - Rude Awakening
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE! Well, I opened up the case, put the disc in the dvd player, adjusted the stereo system all the way up and pressed play, What did I get? -An incredible concert thats definitely worth your money!, with an excellent sound, stunning picture and with one of the bands that doesn't let anyone down when it comes to live concerts. These guys played this concert with an incredible quality that will remind you of the TWNH tour. There are no hitches and you can actually listen to all of the instruments. Megadeth starts out with Dread and the Fugitive Mind, where they show all the power and intensity that we saw through the TWNH tour, then they skipped Kill the King to show it in a different aspect, which they called underground, this song is under a second menu, so you'll be led straight to In my Darkest Hour, which is played with an outstanding quality that goes on through the whole dvd! Well, the songs arent in the order theyre listed in the back of the case, they are broken down in 2 menus. The main list gives you 19 songs to choose from where you'll see Megadeth the same way you may have seen during the TWNH tour. The second menu contains 5 songs, which are in black and white, showing an "underground" sight of the same concert, which is really cool to see. The songs? -All of the hits are on this dvd, you have never seen such a cool live concert on dvd before! We can take a trip through all of the albums, with the coolest stuff from Killing is my Business to their newest stuff from TWNH. Plus this dvd features interviews with all the musicians, the guys here tell whats been happening through Megadeth's history. I am so sorry that Dave injured his arm and I hope he will recover soon and be back in the band. If you are a Megadeth fan and you went to see them live during their last tour like me, you must BUY this dvd, THERE IS NO WAY YOU WON'T LIKE IT!
Awesome buy
I just bought this DVD and it simply is nothing short of impressive. Not only is the picture, production, and the live sound fantastic. Some of the live versions of these songs are a must hear!!! For example. the solo section in "She Wolf" is amazing with guitar battles between Mustaine and Pitrelli, and a drum solo etc. And that's just one song down. This band's musicanship on this DVD is fantastic.
Notice-do not listen to the reviewer who said "Warning- Kill the king, Angry Again etc. arn't on the DVD." THESE SONGS ARE TOO ON HERE!!! . The songlist on the back is out of order, but the other songs are in the "special features" section. All the songs are on this DVD. The reason I gave it a four is because sometimes the cameras are "too short of footage" on Al Pitrelli and Dave Ellefson, and way too much of Jimmy. Plus, I thought there should of been way more footage of the studio sessions of The World Needs A Hero
As far as Megadeth in concert goes, this gave me a great, and more understanding of my favorite band in concert. I don't think I can make myself any more clear! It's about time they made a DVD, and this is worth the wait.
Toss up - CD or DVD?
I purchased the Rude Awakening CD 2 years ago when it was first released and being such a fan of Megadeth and heavy metal in general, I really wanted the DVD to see them actually playing these amazing songs. The camera work is good and the sound quality is great. You may have noticed that 5 songs from the CD aren't mentioned on the DVD song list, however they are located under "special features". Why, I have no idea. The interview segment with the band is very insightful and interesting as well are the other special features. Overall, I am definately glad I bought this DVD.
