Customer Reviews of Mega Man II
One of the Best NES Games ever As the title describes this is one of the best NES games ever. This particular title include colorful graphics, simple controls, and incredible music. Plus a hell of a plot.
As the title implies you are Mega Man, a cyborg built to stop Dr. Wiley and his evil plans. You ahve to face 8 robot bosses in no particular order (although it can help if you know the weakness)and then go off and face Wiley in his Castle.
This game doesn't lack much, the dificulty is a little much and the level designs are amazing (for the time and system).
However the thing that seperates this title is the music, the music is one of the best ever, on all game systems. It fits perfectly.
Buy this game.
Excellent game
In December of 1987, the very first Mega Man adventure finally arrived in American stores. The game was enormous success (surprisingly,) so a sequel was released. How does the Blue Bomber's second adventure measure up? Read on and see!
Graphics: 4/5
The graphics are very simple, smooth, and to the point. Capcom's NES games were renowned for their high resolution, and here it shows. There is virtually no slow-down whatsoever.
Play Control: 3.5/5
VERY simple and to the point, just like the graphics. Shoot, walk, jump. That's about it, people.
Challenge: 3/5
This game was the first to have energy tanks and spike invulnerability when attacked, which really numb the difficulty. Though there are a few mindbending areas in the game, most of it isn't too tough.
Theme/fun: 3.5/5
Sure, this is a dated game, but you've gotta give Capcom credit. This game has stood the test of time, and it shows. In addition to master weapons, you also get three items to help you navigate the stages (kind of like early versions of Rush.) This game is recommended to NES owners.
Storyline: 2.75/5
Dr. Wily's come back for revenge! Well, every series has at least one "typical revenge" plot.
Music/Sound: 3/5
The music just isn't as good as it was in the original. It's good, but don't expect a musical revolution.
Originality: 3/5
The Items were a nice touch (I mean both the navigational items and the energy tanks by this.) Also, this one gave us the "eight robot leaders" style every other game copied.
Replay Value: 3/5
About typical for a Mega Man game.
Overall: 3/5
Though not as good as the later NES titles, this one is still excellent, and highly recommended to any owner of the series.
A huge step up from the original game
It was in 1988 that Capcom released the second game in the classic Mega Man series, Mega Man II. The first game was an excellent, but as no one can deny, it was certainly rough around the edges in comparison to later entries. With the sequel Capcom set out to fix everything they did wrong in the first game. Did they succeed? Read on and find out.
PROS:
-THIS GAME INTRODUCED MANY OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES IN THE SERIES. Among these are energy tanks, spike invulnerability when hit, and receiving helpful items when you defeat a Robot Leader. This was also the first game in the series to feature eight Robot Leaders - the number that was repeated in every "classic series" game afterwards. It's even the first game to have Dr. Wily's Skull Castle. Likewise, I was glad to see that starting with this game, Capcom did away with the "points" system of the first game.
-FOR THIS DAY AND AGE, THE GRAPHICS ARE EXCELLENT. Capcom's classic eight-bit Nintendo games were recognized for their high resolution and minimal glitching/slow-down problems, and it really shows here. Although the graphics are nothing too special by todays standards, if you compare these graphics to another company's game from the same year, you'll discover that, in fact, these were some of the best of their time.
-THIS GAME FEATURES SOME OF THE BEST STAGES/CHARACTERS IN THE SERIES. The game has Flash Man, my personal favorite Robot Leader, as well as Quick Man and Metal Man. Also, the weapons/items you get when you defeat the Robot Leaders are some of the best.
-UNLIKE THE FIRST GAME, THIS ONE HAS A STORYLINE WITHIN THE GAME. You had to read the instructions to get the story for the first game, but this game has an extended intro that basically tells you the whole plot of the game. It's no surprise that later games would copy this.
-THERE ARE TWO DIFFICULTY LEVELS. There is the original Japanese difficulty level, known as Difficult, and a new "easy" mode, which is called Normal.
-THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST "BEGINNER-FRIENDLY" ENTRIES IN THE SERIES, AND ONE OF THE ALL-AROUND BEST. If you're new to the series, bypass the first game and just start with this one.
CONS:
-THE PLOT IS ONE OF THE WEAKEST IN THE SERIES. It's your typical revenge plot. At least it's not as bad as the frequently-repeated "fake new bad guy" plot that later games in the series would use.
-YOU CAN ONLY CARRY FOUR ENERGY TANKS, NOT NINE. Fortunately, this is one of the easier games in the series, so this probably won't make much of a difference on your gaming experience. However, passwords DON'T save energy tanks. Keep that in mind.
-IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A CHALLENGE, LOOK ELSEWHERE. This is an extremely fun game, no questions asked, but if you're looking for a challenge, you've come to the wrong place.
OVERALL:
Overall this is an excellent game that stands the test of time as one of the finest entries in the series. If you're new to the series, this is an excellent place to start.
