Customer Reviews of Mega Man
The beginning of something great In December of 1987, the very first Mega Man adventure finally arrived in American stores. How does the Blue Bomber's first adventure measure up? Read on and see!
Graphics: 4/5
The graphics are very simple, smooth, and to the point. Capcom's NES games were renowned for their high resolution, and here it shows. There is virtually no slow-down whatsoever.
Play Control: 3.5/5
VERY simple and to the point, just like the graphics. Shoot, walk, jump. That's about it, people.
Challenge: 4.75/5
This game is extra hard when compared to other Mega Man titles. There are NO PASSWORDS! This means you must start the game over every time. Also, there are no energy tanks. There is a pause glitch trick you can use to cut the difficulty, but it does little to make the game easier.
Theme/fun: 3.5/5
Sure, this is the weakest game in the Mega Man series by far, but for its time it was revolutionary. No other game let you pick the order you tackled stages in, and more importantly, no other game let you use the weapons of your fallen foes! Unfortunately, the shortcomings listed in the "challenge" section really hurt this game.
Storyline: 3.5/5
An inventor betrays his lifelong assistant, and turns all of their robots against humanity. The one who has been betrayed must convert his lab assistance robot into a super warrior so that he can stop the robot threat. For the time, this was a very intriguing story.
Music/Sound: 3.75/5
Some VERY memorable tunes, in particular the one in Fire Man's stage. Though most of them fail to stand out, not one falls into the "below average" category.
Overall: 3/5
Compared to just about any other game in the series, this one is very lacking. However, it was a good first effort, and certainly a premonition of things to come.
The first in an incredible video game series
The original Mega Man, while rough around the edges, is still a classic in every way. I know many that didn't like it as much as, say, Mega Mans 2 or 4, but you have to realize that this game (with no passwords, energy tanks, rush, etc.) was made back in the day when Nintendo games kicked your [...] and forced you to love them. I still play this every now and then mainly because it's very challenging and still has some replay value to it. Mega Man 2 proved to be easier and was the one that made Mega Man a household name. Rough, hard, but still a great game. Besides, it began the series, so it should be given good credit!
The game when it all started
This Game is great, and I honestley dont understand why some dont like it(to each their own I guess). Yes is difficult, but thats why its so good. In this game there is no E box, no passwords and you have to take all the men all over again when u turn it off but the game is so fun to play that it doesnt matter to me.
The Graphic isnt that good either compares to the 2. one but still much better then other games in that time(Super Mario 1 for example nuff said LOL)
I belive all Mega Man games from 1-4 deserves 5 stars, back in the days Mega Man was the only thing I thought about (In 91). After Mega Man 4 I think it seriously went down the hill.
Fave part is Dr.Willys world which is fun and difficult at the same time. Interesting is in the 3. level u are fighting against yourself ! Its difficult to master, I actually only did it 2 or 3 times since I bought it(and later lost, then downloaded emulators on my computer for it). Last time I went through the game was in his year and it was just as fun as back in the day.
