Virus protection/Firewall/Peresonal Security/Spamblocker A secondary(other than Windows)firewall program is a necessity. This program includes Virus Scan, which does remove some potentially unwanted programs. The McAfee Firewall is excellent. The parental security features locks out children from viewing adult content. The fourth program in the suite is a Spamblocker to filter junk e-mail. All are user friendly. I've used this program for years and will continue to for a clean, well-maintained home PC.
cumbersome and interfering
I have the 2006 suite. I thought Norton was bad a few years ago (brought my computer to its knees...completely slowed down the system, scanning and screening everything...an actual virus might have been better), so I switched to McAfee.

>McAfee is user unfriendly, hard to figure out how to turn off various intrusive features. For example, I do my own spam filtering in Outlook, and McAfee would take a few minutes whenever I booted up Outlook to scan through my inbox. Since there are frequently 100 or so emails in my inbox that I just keep for subsequent processing (they roll over over time), it would waste my time rescanning all the same emails over and over again. I finally figured out how to get rid of the feature, made the mistake of restarting it somehow, now its haunting me again. now I've wasted another 15 minutes trying to put the evil spirit back into its box.

>I also have Windows defender, and I think the two compete with each other to read my email and web pages before I do, I'm hoping to make a complete switch to defender pretty soon.
Worst product ever
I bought this product already with apprehension that it would slow down my computer and block me from every website, and it did exactly that. The installation was slow and froze several times in the process requiring me to manually shut down my computer. When everything was actually installed then it slowed down my computer so much having me to wait more than twice as long than before to do virtually everything. I ended up uninstalling everything. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
