The Waterford Marquis Carnivale Calda ornament is blown into an onion-domed roof spire shape, like something from Arabian Nights. (The arts and architecture of Venice, the European terminus of the ancient east-west Silk Road trade route, have long been tinged with a fantastic Orientalism.) The color palette is evocative of Venice's pre-Lenten Carnivale festival; "Calda" refers to the warm end of the spectrum, so this ornament is tinted and painted in shades of red and orange. (There is a contrasting Carnivale Fresco ornament in cool blues, purples, and greens.) A triple-droplet blue finial provides a contrasting color accent.
