Customer Reviews of Man That's Groovy: Early Vocal Groups 1935-1944
Nice compilation of transcriptions These rare recordings are a valuable addition to the 1940s vocal group catalogue and include six secular tracks by the Golden Gate Quartet (also available on Document 5502). The previous reviewer is partially incorrect in that most of the tracks on the CD were originally recorded in studios in 15 minute takes and aren't "live" in the commonly understood sense of the term. The resulting 16" transcription discs were then distributed to radio stations for airplay. Six of the tracks by the Ink Spots, however, are live broadcast recordings with the Cootie Williams Orchestra.
Cool vocal tunes from the golden age of radio
Fun, rambunctious radio transcriptions of African-American vocal groups such as the Inkspots, Delta Rhythm Boys, Spirits of Rhythm, and the Golden Gate Quartet. Lots of hits and novelty tunes, as well as between-song stage patter. Makes your jaw drop once you realize this was all done **live** on the air. Unfortunately, this is one of the harder Interstate label albums to find, but it's well worth the search!
