Customer Reviews of Sean-Nos Nua
Not Fantastic, But Still Delightful Although I don't feel this is one of Sinead's best works, it does deserve a listen to. The stars of the cd are "Her Mantle So Green" and "I'll Tell Me Ma". If you're used to traditional Irish music you will adore her adaptation of them. Without a doubt her voice is still tip top. Her duet with Christy Moore on "Lord Baker" is nice as well. His voice is deep and very smooth, which goes well with her angelic voice. The songs that are in Gaelic are also lovely to listen to. Very Enya-esque, which I'm sure Sinead wasn't really aiming for (not that that's a bad thing). I'd say buy it if Sinead's voice makes you shiver, as it does for me. Regardless of if you're into the songs, her voice still shines. And I always look forward to new releases from her.
Breathtaking
This is truly a breathtaking album. The music is pure Irish, and the words to the songs strike deep into one's soul. Sinead shows a great control of voice from the whisper of "Peggy Gordon" and "Paddy's Lament" to the echo overlay of a sailing song called "Lord Franklin" (which made me feel as if I were on the ocean listening to this song), to her full bodied voice in "Molly Malone." Sinead truly shows that she has the emotional control of her songs to deliver you anywhere she so feels fit to.
Sinéad Ní Chonchobhair- Tá sí chomh álainn!
I am amazed by the work that Sinéad has done! She has such a beautiful, albeit haunting(not a bad thing, necessarily), voice.
My only complaint is the lack of Gaeilge used on this album. I am glad that she made some notice of the language with "Óró 'Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile" agus "Báidín Fheileimí". The former of those songs is so vibrantly recorded and makes her sound as if she really feels and means what she is saying! Very stirring war cry! And it makes for a great anthem for anybody under pressure. "Paddy's Lament" sends shivers down my spine, partly from the lyrics, partly from that *gorgeous* voice. "Lord Franklin" brings tears to my eyes, both in the melody and in the story of love and loss.
This is a marvelous cd! There are some things that I would change, but I still like it a lot! 'S e ban-prionnsa na h-Èirinn a th'innte! Chomh iongantach, a Shíne! Dia leat!
