M.A.D.E. a mistake Back around 1997 to 1999, Memphis Bleek impressed people with his style on songs like "It's Alright". But after he dropped Coming of Age, people seemed to stop paying attention to him. And his follow-up album The Understanding didn't really do much for him either. But Bleek still seemed undaunted, and prepared to release his third album, tentatively titled Misunderstood, in 2002. But that album got pushed back repeatedly just like most non-Jay-Z Roc-a-Fella albums (Philadelphia Freeway, anyone?), but it finally came out this year with its new title, M.A.D.E.
I can't really say this album is disappointing because I really didn't expect much from it. Basically, the album is uninteresting. The main problem with it is something that is commonplace with many Roc-a-Fella albums: there are way too many guest stars on here (again refer to Philadelphia Freeway). Out of a total of seventeen tracks, Bleek is by himself on only four of them. But the thing is, when you listen to those solo tracks, it sort of makes you understand why all those other guest stars are there. Because Bleek isn't really impressive when he's on his own -- well, actually, "War" (which sounds a little like Guy's "Her") is tolerable, but I can't say the same about "Hell No", which has a wack title, wack chorus, wack verses; wack, wack, wack.
Sometimes rap superstars can't even save some of these songs. The guys of M.O.P. give an okay performance on "Hood Muzik", but they've sounded better. And Freeway gives an uninspired performance on a Just Blaze-produced track, which is generically titled "Just Blaze, Bleek & Free". Actually, a LOT of these songs have generic titles, like "1,2 Y'all" (which rips off Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s "Realms of Junior M.A.F.I.A.") and "We Ballin'". The obligatory hard-times-growing-up track "My Life" features Latif, of all people, and Donell Jones shows up to sing the hook for "I Wanna Love U", which is really a sample of Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T." That never works; ask Monica.
There are some other bad songs on here too, like "Hypnotic" (which wears the "Izzo"-style lingo out); and "Everything's a Go" (whose production sounds like a bad reworking of Busta Rhymes' "Fire", which didn't have great production either) is a contradiction. I was originally going to give this album 2-1/2 stars, but considering that it's weak AND it's too long (75 minutes), I knocked it down to 2. And by the way, whoever said this is better than The Black Album needs to listen to The Black Album more closely. Buy this only to complete your Roc-a-Fella collection.

Whhatttt...Oookayyyy
Personally, when I recently experienced Memphis Bleeks latest effort M.A.D.E. I reflected on past experience and noted that he was lacking.......This is the type of trash that many reviewers on this website spit out when doing rap cd reviews. They think they need to connect with the artist and want in-depth lyrics that are thought provoking so they can "experience" the album. People need to understand that a lot of rap music is made to pop in your cd player without having to think much. This is the perfect cd to play while your doing something else (dancing, driving, playing ps2...you pick). Some tracks may inspire you, and have emotional content, but Memphis Bleek and a lot of other rappers don't make music that needs to be analyzed for its artistical quality. Memphis Bleek is a very talented rapper, and he gets good production, but he didn't make (nor will he ever make) a groundbreaking album like Pac, Biggie, or Nas. M.A.D.E. has a lot a of good tracks (Just Blaze, Bleek, and Free is an amazing song with a fire beat), and its a good pick-up for any Roc fan. Bleek is slowly getting closer and closer to being part of the elite, but he is not there yet.
May I Say Classic Next To The Best CD EVER...GREATNESS!!!!!!
Bleek killed this cd production was top notch bleek had a couple bad lines VERY FEW but thats acceptable hell Jay Z makes no sense and people eat his rhymes like candy. Bleek should be gettin more respect then what he's gettin. I've not heard anything this good since 2 Pac, for all you east coast fans he easily takes Notorious Big
Lyrics 9.5/10
Flow 10/10
Beats 10/10
Bleek did it whoever disagrees is just wrong
IGNORE the Jay Z cd despite what the public says its WACK, despite what the public says this is great they just don't want anybody on Rocafella better than Jay so they hold Bleek back...if you want heat get Bleek, Free, some State Prop and forget that Jay Z and Beanie Sigel trash
