A great gift for the kitchen gadget collector, this nifty item performs three functions on eggs. Kept safely inside a locking mechanism until rotated for use, a sharp metal point easily pierces a fresh egg before boiling to prevent cracking or exploding during the boiling process. And, blades inside the lift-up arm will cut a hard-boiled egg into either thin slices or wedges. When the egg work is done, the gadget goes right into the dishwasher for easy cleanup. The egg cutter is made of 18/10 stainless steel, which means it's as durable as it is good looking. --Ann Bieri

Customer Reviews of MIU France Egg Cutter, Wedger, and Piercer
Great for eggs, bad for mushrooms Be very careful how you use this product. It is intended for eggs only, although I read else where it can be used on mushrooms and other small items. But you run the risk of breaking it. <

>The housing is very high quality. It feels nice in my hand, fits right for its intended uses, and seems very sturdy. The piercer is an interesting addition I suspect most home cooks will never use. I used it to poke raw eggs for boiling. This helps eliminate the air space in the top of eggs. The small hole helps the white vinegar firm the whites more quickly to keep the yellow yoke for soft boiled eggs. And it helps keep the eggs from cracking by uneven heating of the white vs. the air. If you are an aspiring chef, this is a cool tool to have. <

>Be warned, though, that you shouldn't slice anything harder than eggs, jello, or other softer items. I made the mistake of trying to wedge and slice button mushrooms. The strings broke. <

>Amazon nor MIU claim this can cut mushrooms so this is my mistake. Since this was my stupid mistake I'm not returning it to the manufacturer for a repair or replacement. That wouldn't be fair in my opinion. The metal strings appear to be pretty simple, and with some effort, and wire tools, I think it can be restringed by myself with some effort and maybe some guitar or perhaps some food grade string. Still at the relatively cheap price I may just purchase again and mind my manners with it.
