Customer Reviews of MAXTOR M01E200 Personal Storage 3100 External Hard Drive 200 GB
Do not buy a MAXTOR Device I have the External Hard Drive 200GB Personal Storage 3100. This Hard Drive is garbage, it is the 3rd one within 3 months, the previous 2 had the identical malfunction problems. Do not buy one of these devices. Their Support is a joke and claim they are not responsible.
Maxtor External Hard Drives have a HIGH failure rate
I NEVER write reviews on products, but when something is this bad, I had to give my input. In over 18 years of working with computers, 7 years as a tech, I can tell you that the Maxtor External Hard Drives are some of the WORST products that I have ever purchased. I had a 200 GB die in 10 months, the company replaced it and the replacement died shortly after. I found a 80GB on sale (the 3100) and it died in 7 months. I made the mistake of not looking at the warranty period and was shocked to see it was only 3 months.. BOTH PRODUCTS HAD LESS THAN 5 HOURS BACKUP TIME!!

> They know that their 3100 is a low-grade product, so they only give you a 3 month warranty. I will never even look at Maxtor again.. external or internal. If you still "must," have it, I suggest purchasing an extended warranty.. for at least 3 years!

I have the 100gb. 7200rpm, 8mb buffer= speed.
I got it for cheap (70) and hope it will keep performing despite the poor reviews other customers gave it. 100gb is all I need and I wasnt willing to shell an additional 50 bucks for the other HDs with comparable performance just to get another HD with a bad review. Its not gettin a 5 only because its only been a few days since I got it. Hopefully it doesnt crash. If it does- no sweat, its all backed up on dvds of course.
