Customer Reviews of Lynyrd Skynyrd - Lyve from Steel Town
SWEET TO STAY HOME AND WATCH People, I love Skynyrd! I have a ton of their old stuff, shelled out big bucks for bootlegs, and have some of their post plane crash band albums. They are a terrific band and i wasn't old enough to see the original Skynyrd. I have seen the newer Skynyrd 2 times and I saw them on this tour for the album Twenty. I must say after seeing the show and then a few months later watching this, I have a better time watching this. It's not that the concert I went to was lame, but this DVD is exactly what I saw in concert and I could have saved alot of money. Skynyrd nowadays doesn't have the energy and magic in their live shows as they once did, and going to their concerts is just basically watching them going through the motions. It's nothing spectacular to see. That's why I got this, because I still like to here them live every now and then, and when I know they're playing live in my town, I can just stay home and get the same thing on my t.v., only front row center. All-in-all a good performance and the DVD version does add a few interesting things for a few more dollars, nothing to write about though, but worth the money.
Better Than Being There
First of all, Skynyrd is still a vital rock and roll band who put on an outstanding show. They provide a nice song selection on this DVD. The sound is fantastic on this disc. It is a lot better sounding than being there live. I thought the picture was a little grainy looking, especially on the darker sections. All in all, a must have for Skynyrd fans but probably better left alone for a casual fan of the band.
Johny is no Ronnie !
This is...well...a good DVD, a must for Skynyrd fans, but I was dissapointed by the way Johny V. Z. sings, he lacks the energy necesary for being a Lead Vocalist for one of the classic rock bands of all times. He looks childish and wimpy considering the band he plays in, you can sense that he really DOES NOT takes his role seriously.
How sad is to notice that Artimus Pyle is missing in the drums, he was the beat of the heart of Skynyrd.
But after all...it is worth buying, the two new guitarists really know how to play.
But...wow... I can not believe how Rossington turned to be ... an overweight, emotionless guitar player, and the back up singers are not worth comparing with the originals that died in the plane crash.
But after all, I repeat...a must for Skynyrd fans.
