In "Fallen Angels," a loudly protesting Kain goes (in drag) aboard a training ship for student nurses. Pre-exam tensions have produced a mysterious series of attacks, including a very funny spoof of the shower scene from "Psycho."
Canal is the holographic realization of the computer system of Kain's ship, the Swordbreaker, and the chess-themed mystery "Knight Checks" offers some intriguing hints about the past that shaped her bouncy personality. Who was the mysterious Alice?
Outwitting the Nightmare Crime Syndicate in "Knight Checks" to retrieve a minor piece of information wins Kain a very powerful enemy--in addition to Roy Glen, who tries to steal the Swordbreaker in "Flames Roar" and the whip-bearing Kali from the previous disk. But as long as he has his trademark cape and psi-blade, Kain remains confident he can handle anything the galaxy throws at him--except for the endless quarrels between Millie and Canal.
Unrated; suitable for ages 10 and up; minor sexual innuendoes and some rather tame violence. --Charles Solomon

Customer Reviews of Lost Universe - The Ultimate Fowl! (Vol 2)
Mediocre in English - Excellent in Japanese! While the dubbing was alright in the first volume, from then on it unfortunetly goes downhill. Some episodes are worse than others, of course, but similar to the Slayers, (another anime by the same creator, it's a little more well known) it's best viewed in Japanese. I must admit the lame LAME lines used by the english Kane made me laugh, "I'm really one of the coolest people you'll ever meet!! Yeah!" but it really makes him into a completely different character. (He's supposed to be a little more serious - cool even!) The english dub of this volume is still enjoyable to watch, but it doesn't really compare to the english-subbed version. The dialogue, plotlines and even jokes seem more understandable in their original form - A lot seems to have been lost in the translation, unfortunetly. Also, the Japanese version features many big name seiyuu, like Megumi Hayashibara(Canal), and Hikaru Midorikawa (Rayle) as well as many others. After seeing both, I would choose the subbed version over the dub. It's a bit more money, but it's worth it in the end!
Lost Universe is a decent series
Lost universe is a decent series, but you may find yourself a little bored during the first few episodes. Near the ending of this series is where the real excitement is. The same animators from The Slayers did the animation for this series. The resemblence of the main character of Lost Universe to Lina Inverse is amazing. The story of this series is very similar to Star Wars. This is definitely a series not to miss, you just have to get through the beginning episodes.
Interplanetary Anime
The second volume of Lost Universe brings us more adventures from our interplanetary animated crew. Crossing the galaxy in their ship 'The Swordbreaker', the action follows our heroes Kane, the resident fighting type guy, and his female companion Milli, the number one cook in the universe who's also pretty handy with the ship's sizeable defence systems. The Swordbreaker comes with the services of Canal, a female hologram who's on hand to help out when things get tight - which they do, all the time.
Lost Universe is an enjoyable anime with likeable characters, good humour and a story that will swiftly draw you in. Come for the eye candy, stay for the story - make no mistake, there is no escape from the Lost Universe.
