Customer Reviews of Lost Tapes
Classic Material ! ... They come from recording sessions for 'I AM' and 'Stillmatic' and my first reaction is how in the world did some of the songs not make the cut for those albums? ...irrelevant This is an excellent CD packed with classic unreleased material from Nasty Nas.
The first 4 songs are all amazing. On "Doo Rags" Nas gets real deep talking about Politics, God, etc... The type of stuff that goes completely over the head of stupid Jay-Z fans. "U gotta Luv it" is a great song and "Nothing last forever", a last second addition, is an incredibly tight song." My only complaint is there are two versions of "No Idea's Original" and I think Nas picked the wrong one. The one he didn't use has a better beat. The only other song I don't like too much is "Everybody's crazy". "Drunk by Myself" and "Purple" are two of the illest Nas songs ever and "Fetus" is also a great song.
I know the world of Napster and Kazaa has made this album a bit outdated but try to imagine this was a new CD. with these songs it would probably be the best Rap album of the year and would garner 5 mics. Thats why I gave it 5 stars cause I treated it like a new CD for people who haven't heard these joints. This is a wonderful thing for Nas to give to his fans. ...I highly recommend this album. well worth the 15 bones. Peace
THANK GOD SOMEBODY FOUND THEM!!!!!!!!!!!
Nasty Nas is back!!! The Lost Tapes are even better than "Stillmatic"!!! This CD is loaded wit classic "Illmatic" like material that Nas fans have been waiting years for. I have to admit even though "Stillmatic" was tight I was a little dissapointed by some of the commercialized beats and I was afraid that Nas would never again come wit the legendary material he came up in the game wit. But damn! I copped "The Lost Tapes" and couldn't believe the classic material.Every track is original. Nas how did these not make your albums?!!! Nas might as well have called this The Real Stillmatic. Almost every track is off the hook:
1."Doo Rags" Probably the dopest track. Lyrics of a true rap legend. What's the woooord!!!
2."My Way" Nas tells 'bout the stuggle and originalnality that brought him in the game.
3."U gotta love It" The track title says it all.
4."Nothing Lasts forever" kind of sounds like 2. and 3. but is still off the hook.
5."No Ideas Original" One of the only bad tracks. The beat is wack yo!
6."Blaze a 50" The only other bad track.
7."Everybody's Crazy" Another crazy track by Nas. Contains a few shots at Young Hova. Definetly worthy of being on Stillmatic.
8."Purple" More classic material. Off the hook.
9. "Drunk by Myself" Another story about life in the projects.
10. "Black Zombies" Nice smooth beat. Nas changes up his flow and even sings on the hook.
11. "Poppa was a Playa" rivals Doo Rags as the CD's dopest track. Nas raps about his pops on a beat thats absolutely off the hook.
12. "Fetus" incredible bonus track. Nas raps about his life in his moms and his plans to hit to the world. ... of a concept Nas.
Even if you're not a Nas fan you'd be a damn fool not to cop this. The Lost Tapes is a masterpiece. The biggest downside of this album is that it is too short and Nas supossedly has loads more of lost unreleased tapes!!! Somebody better get they asss back to Queensbridge, find them and release more of these classic raps. God knows the rap world needs them!!! Also I wish Nas said what CD's they were cut from. Recognize: Nas is a hip hop legend!!! "God's Son" Dec 17. Hollaaaaaa!!!
Nas - "Lost Tapes"
Okay, some Columbia executive needs to be either shot or fired...either way they need to be discharged from their job. How any of these tracks didn't make it on to one of Nas's "official" LP's is a mystery to me. While at first sight it appears that the release of "Lost Tapes" seems like some money hungry executive's scheme to cash in on all the publicity Nas was getting during the time, it could easily pass as an actual LP, and a damn good one at that. The track "Doo Rags" kicks things off and sets the tempo for the rest of the CD. Right away, "Lost Tapes" has a feel of a more modern version of Nas' classic 1994 LP, "Illmatic," as it's filled with classic street tales that only Nas can depict to listeners. The album's highlight is "My Way," a track where the street poet tells of how he made it in the rap game and how he secured his spot as arguably one of the greatest of all time. From beginning to finish, "Lost Tapes" contains excellent production and Nas...well...Nas comes as only Nas Escobar can bring it. This is a must have for all hip-hop fans, as it's easily one of the top LP's of 2002.
