Customer Reviews of Lost Stooges
More interesting than funny For us Stoogephiles, this collection of early stooge films from 1933-34 are more interesting than funny. These early films such as "Beer And Pretzels," "Nertsery Rhymes,", "Meet The Baron," etc. have their moments. Unfortuantely, they lack the percise comic timing of the Stooge films we know and love. Not very well directed. I would rate them at a cut below the Columbia films with Curly and somewhat above the abominations with Shemp Howard, Joe Besser, and "Curly Joe." We do see the origin of the boys' "The tools we've been using for the last 10 years" routine, though.
Interestingly, the very first Stooge film "From Soup to Nuts" (1930, with the young Shemp Howard), is not included or mentioned here, even though it's not a "lost film." Wonder why?
A treasure for Stooge fans!
This collection of short subject films and clips featuring pre-Columbia Stooges is a valueable piece of Sttooge history. We get to see the Stooges with Ted Healy, their co-founder and straight man. What makes this video interesting is that we get to see the origins of many of the Stooges' routines with lines delivered differently than expected. Bear in mind, this isn't the hardcore slapstick that became the boys' trademark ; it's watered down with song and dance segments, but for the true Stooge fan this is a terrific historical document.
