Customer Reviews of Longest Day (1961)
one of the best ever made the longest day is one of the best war movies ever made. this tale of the first 24 hours of the d-day landings and air drops is more than just good movie making it's history and a fine show of what good writing acting and direction can do. each point of view is given and tthe battle scenes are some of the most powerful ever shot. with an all-star cast this set the tone for all the big epic war movies to come. a must own if you like war movies or just good movies.
Sean Connery is interesting to watch
The Longest Day is my favourite D-Day movie. My Grandparents are alleged to be King George VI and the Queen Mother. King George VI, Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and President Roosevelt apparently invented something called the Hess Oss Poor Man which sounded like the Headless Horseman. Hess who had flown to Britain was drafted into the OSS and interogated about the Nazis war intentions. I have never liked Nazis. In 2002 I got a message from the Queen Mother delivered by British Intelligence. She mentioned Tactical Exercise without Troops something I would write about over 3 years in the future and said that I was the highest ranking British Intelligence person in Canada and a double Oh which hints at royal blood. I often look through the book that I have about my Grandmother the Queen Mom. I met the British Int double Oh for the Bahamas in 1999 and he saluted me. Thats when I began to realize that something was going on in terms of myself having rank. Getting to meet President Jack Kennedy in 1997 was another highlight in my life. I have often thought that 007 There is no substitute sounds like a countdown for something. If tough measures are needed to stop Global warming lets all save as many people as possible. The 1975 British Prime Ministers Nuclear War plan had members of the government to be saved but none of the voting population. The current American and British leadership will not desert the voters. I am the British Prince and American shadow Vice President who has to decide by wearing a hat with 6 stars when Canada is protected by America and when it is protected by Britain. some could say that I am always a traitor to someone but Verily I say to you America and Britain never had a truer Friend. King George VI my Grandfather was chosen as the Messiah by God who lives in Moonfleet. Lets all support God the Human creators decision. Osons Ley Hugh M'an.
A great WWII movie that can't be missed
The Longest Day is an exciting and mostly historicly accurate movie that will fit nicely with any WWII movie collection. It tells the invasion of Normandy from many different perspectives. It follows the American, British, German and French forces through the beach and airborn landings. The shore landings are on a massive scale with hundreds of soldiers swarming the beaches. The paratroopers perspective shows the confusion of the whole attack as the U.S. airborn divisions landed all over the countryside and were seperated from their groups. The British troops are shown at the begining of the invasion landing by glider and raiding a bridge key to the sucess of the invasion that the German forces are preparing to destroy. It then moves on the the airborn landings and the American, British, and French invasion forces landing on the beaches. The German perspective is mostly the commanders trying to make sense of the neverending stream of reports about paratroopers, allied navy, decoys, and their inability to launch their Panzer devisions because Hitler went to sleep and was not to be awaken. The name of the movie says a lot as well, as this is a very long movie (three hours), requiring the viewer to have a good attention span to watch it from beginning to end. Some of the beach landing scenes are just five or more minutes of soldiers charging up the beach with no sounds other than constant explosions and gunfire. However, the length of the movie is necessary to show the battle from all sides. This is definitely one of my favorite war movies of all time and has most of the historical facts in place.
