Customer Reviews of Long View to the Sky
Transcendent DFW combine trance, drones, metal, and college philosophy to create an unforgettable and unique sound. Todd Werny's vocals range from pop-boy to gothadelic and usually find their way to the listeners' ears only after a few rounds in the synthesizer. The music is varied, especially on this album of mostly remixed and live tracks, but tends to run classic rawk through the ringer of 90s multicultural techno. "Snowfallingthrusmoke" is one of their most powerful songs, a visceral smackdown that questions nativity and the power of place. After such a strong opening, the rest of the album feels a little shaky, but it's still overall a stunningly wonderful find. Dancing, driving, or staring out the window into grayness, "Long View to the Sky" is there for you.
Not really a full-length album
Diamond Fist Werny has never been rushed about writing new songs. Their oeuvre encompasses (to the best of my knowledge) two 5-song cassettes, a 45" single, and two 7-song CDs. And now this, which is really another similarly-sized release with remixes filling out the extra space. Nonetheless, it is worth the price of admission. The remixes, I feel, mostly serve to bring Diamond Fist Werny closer to the mainstream, which doesn't really do them justice. (On the other hand, neither do they do violence to the spirits of the originals.) But the rest of the album is classic Diamond Fist Werny.
Heck, get it for "Goddess" alone, still my favorite song of theirs.
