Customer Reviews of Long Time No See
The BEST CD that 1998 has to offer, Chico DeBarge's latest CD "Long Time No See" is by far the best CD this year and maybe even EVER! I love every song and totally feel Chico's pain. I want the songs to never stop because I never get tired of listening to his story, who would? He appears to be beautiful inside and out. The songs on the CD reflect the things he's been through in his life including the time he spent in prison. The CD has something for everyone. Some people(without any musical taste)have compared this CD to D'Angelo. That was the funniest thing I heard in a while(no disrespect to D'Angelo). You CAN NOT compare these two artists. Anyone who is interested I give you my word you will NOT be disappointed. It is worth everydime!
Chunk of neo-soul
This was a cool late 90s piece of neo-soul from Chico Debarge. Kind of a dark vibe, Debarge has a silky falsetto similar to Maxwell or D'Angelo, and the grooves are nice & smooth. Theres a cover of Marvin Gayes 'Trouble Man', and the big single 'Iggin' Me'. My cut has to be the opener, 'Love Still Good', a super sensual number sung beautifully over an eerie harmony. The album loses marks because the 2nd half isn't quite as solid as the 1st half, although there is the killer jam 'Superman'.
'Long Time No See' isn't up there with 'Brown Sugar' or 'Maxwells Urban Hang Suite', but it is cool and one of the few legit R&B albums of the 90s. Shame Debarge messed up his second album 'The Game' because that kinda took him out of the picture and hes yet to get things back together.
Due 2004 !
Chico's next CD, due out Summer 2004 will be simply entitled "III". Now we know what it means to be FREE! Alove Entertainment is Chico's baby and my guess is that he's about to put it down and really get what he deserves which is air time and love from his fans. Let's support him and show him the appreciation he did NOT get from other labels. Go Chico! Show 'em how to do it--YOUR WAY!
