The best wireless mouse ever
I've had my skepticism about wireless mice until I bought the Logitech MX 1000. It's very responsive, and the signal has never dropped out on me. I use the MX1000 mainly at home, and my main reason for getting it was to reduce the cable clutter on my desktop. The receiver is about 2 feet away from the mouse at all times. <

Logi-gamer, without the Logi-gamer.
I think this mouse is great; I bought it mainly because I wanted the cordless/wireless factor in my graphical design work, plus the precision of a laser mouse for my pixel-to-pixel work. Given that this is the first-generation laser mouse from Logitech, I was skeptical to how well it would perform, and I must say, I am still impressed almost a year after my initial purchase. <

>Though I am tempted to switch over to the new line of Logitech 2000-dpi laser gaming mice, the G5 (corded) or G7 (cordless), I find almost no real difference in performance, given the resolutions are different and albeit more sensitive with the newer mice. Even with Logitech's laser as the new bottom standard policy for mice, I am hesitant to upgrade. Though the higher-dpi mice would work well with higher resolution projects, I do not find the upgrade tempting as the MX1000 seems the most durable and comfortable than those new performer mice. <

Though it does not have the upgraded response time of the G-series or Razor mice (that overrided the USB 2.0 bottleneck of responses per second), I find it is still capable of getting every shot and fragging even the most skillful of players (and I've been a computer gamer since birth so I know what it's like to play an FPS with a just a keyboard and still compete). It's 800-dpi works fine; especially since DPI does not really matter unless you work in higher resolutions in-game and out. So if you are extra sensitive to highly reactive mice, stick with something at 800 or below--unless you want the option to customize that aspect. Unforunately, the MX1000 does not have that feature. <

>On the downside, the mouse does have a short battery life, but not nearly as short as the Logitech G7 (which clocks in about one battery life per 12 hours; good thing they include 2 batteries in the package). On average, I have to recharge every 4-5 days to a week, depending on how much work I do or how much gaming I do. When it is charging, good luck figuring out how to use your computer without it; I have a backup corded mouse to do my business, but it is not nearly as enjoyable. A side note: when the battery runs low, the connection between the mouse and receiver can be 'laggy' or 'unsuable', so is the inherent problem with cordless mice (the G7 has a better receiver at the cost of battery life). <

>One mouse to consider over the MX1000 is the G7, which has very similar features (the G7 is clearly based off the MX1000 design), but the problem is both are first-generation of their respective classes. Personally, I think the next time I upgrade from my trustworthy MX100 is when they incorporate the silky smoothness of this mouse and its battery life with the wireless receiver and hot-swappable batteries of the G7. <
