Customer Reviews of Lift
very different compared to underdog, i expected this cd to be pretty heavy. i was wrong - it's a lot softer, but you can tell the band has matured a lot over the last couple years so the lyrics are deeper and more meaningful. in my opinion, the best songs are ocean floor, lift, glory, and summertime. some songs i don't like at all, but that's because i enjoy hard rock more than softer stuff. a decent album even if you're not a hardcore audio adrenaline fan.
OK
Audio Adrenaline is back with a much anticipated follow up to the great album that was Underdog. During their hiatus, the group released a greatest hits record with a couple of new tunes to suffice the eager fan waiting for a new album. Now, Audio Adrenaline is back with a huge force. Continuing in the tradition of making great pop/rock anthems destined to be youth group favorites, Audio Adrenaline made an album with a few spots of growth as well. Lyrically, the album tends to stay on the same level as previous efforts, in other words, encouraging lingo that only the Christian would enjoy. That's not a bad thing, as a matter of fact, it's what Audio Adrenaline does well. However, tunes like "Ocean Floor" and "Lonely Man" (featuring T-Bone) show the growth that was previously mentioned. They show that they aren't afraid to dig a little deeper on these tunes and show some human frailty. Musically, the album stays pretty up. "You Still Amaze Me", "Lonely Man" and "I'm Alive" are all out rockers that Audio Adrenaline are known for. "Rejoice", "Beautiful" and "Glory" are nice pop tunes destined for radio success. I don't have any complaints with a band that knows their place industry and doesn't try to be something they're not. Audio Adrenaline has made and will make great pop/rock albums for the rest of their career. And as long as they are as enjoyable as Lift, I don't have a problem with it.
Slight dip in quality, but still excellent
In the middle of making 5 solid albums comes LIFT. The bands style was set with DON'T CENSOR ME, 1995. Then came the monster albums that are full of 3, 4 and 5 star songs BLOOM and SOME KIND OF ZOMBIE. These 5 star albums were followed by two 4 star albums UNDERDOG and LIFT. LIFT has a lot of 3 -good- and 4 -great- star songs with only one 5 -WOW!- star songs - Ocean Floor, a beautiful moderate rock song about the fact that, through Jesus our sins are forgiven and forgotten, they are there on the ocean floor.
One wonders what would happen after two 5 star albums, then two 4 star albums. Which way will it break with the next album? The next album is WORLDWIDE, and in my opinion, it is one of the great albums of any genre. Oddly enough, the best song on LIFT is also on WORLDWIDE.. Ocean Floor.
There is a lot to like about LIFT, but the must have albums are, in order of importance to me: HIT PARADE, WORLDWIDE, BLOOM and SOME KIND OF ZOMBIE. Music is food for the soul. Great Christian music from Audio Adrenalin is a huge feast for the soul because, in my opinion all their albums are 3 star or better, except one -the self titled one released in 1995.
