Customer Reviews of Life With Jackie
A loving husband I think every man or woman would kill for a spouse of partner who loved and adored us as much as Irving loved Jackie. But....
in reading other reviews I agree that he did probably write the book in response to Barbara Seaman's research and biography on Jackie.
It did however give an insight to the mutual pain that they felt over their son's illness and the lengths that they went to for him, which I think we all can agree was the great tragedy of Jackie's life, and probably Irving's. Barbara's book did discuss that at length but with Irving's you could feel the actual pain that only the two of them felt.
Irving loved and adored his wife, and he felt she loved and adored him as well, and in the end she did, I think that that was the message he wanted Jackie's fans to get.
A fantasy look back
Kurt is right about the book Irving wrote. When I first read the book,I thought it was a nice piece of work, but Irving didn't share what he knew about the real Jackie. But the reason I believe why he wrote the book was because Barbara Seaman was researching "Lovely Me, The Life Of Jacqueline Susann, and he knew the truth about her, and was scared the truth would eventually come out. It did. A good friend of mine was Beatrice Cole, Jackie's closest friend. And she confided to me, the book Barbara wrote probably killed Irving. But the truth is the truth no matter how you look at it. And believe me, I'm not knocking this incredible indominable woman, but it took Barbara to bring out the depth of the woman, and most important, the truth.
Jackie Superstar - Irving Groupie?
This book is not brilliantly written and tends to ignore the trashy, brassy side of Jacqueline that we all love, but hey it's written by a devoted husband. If you are reading this after devouring "Lovely Me" by Barbara Seaman you may even wonder if it's about the same Jacqueline Susann! All in all it's a sweet book that is written by a man that obviously, truly adored his wife.
