Customer Reviews of Lewis Lymon & the Teen Chords Meet The Kodaks
Of Historical Interest, But Very Entertaining It's somewhat unfair to compare Lewis Lymon's Teenchords to Frankie Lymon's Teenagers, but Lewis and crew had a less polished (but no less appealing) style than his brother's more famous group. These songs are lots of fun to listen to, though. The doo-wop version of Nat King Cole's "Too Young" boasts an appealing guitar solo. "Honey Honey" is filled with the innocent charm that made doo-wop so endearing (the song even fades out with the lyrics "doo-wop doo-wop"). The ballad "Please Tell The Angels" has a nice street-singing edge to it as well as the upbeat "Dance Girl," "Lydia," and "I'm So Happy." As for the Kodaks, "Teenage Dream" and the others are vocal dead ringers for Frankie's crew. In fact, Pearl McKinnon of the Kodaks later sang for a later version of Frankie's Teenagers. Still, this is one of those works of historical interest that is actually great entertainment.
Not exactly Frankie, but still good
This is a good CD for all you diehard Doo Wop Fans. I can only give this four stars, though, only becuase I don't feel that Lewis' voice quite matches the strength of his older brother the legendary Frankie Lymon, although they're very similar. Too Young, I'm so Happy, and I found out why are three of the best. The Kodaks are nothing to laugh at either with their songs. Check it out.
