Customer Reviews of Let There Be Rock
Mixed emotions I love several parts of this album. With their 4th album, Let there Be rock, ac/dc had achieved a sound that would never be recaptured, at least as far as I know. Their guitars on this album were at a heavy metal levle of raw power that they'd never again get. The amazing solos of whole lotta rosie, the all too prohpetic Overdose, the bluesy metallic Go down, as well the weaker songs Dog eat dog, bad boy boogie. Hell ain't a bad place to be, surprisingly is among my favorites. To point out the songs with the best guitaR: Let there be rock, whole lotta rosie, and overdose. The album is worth the purchase for those songs alone, but don't expect a perfect work.
Immortality Guarranteed
This may not be AC/DC's best record, but it is one of their best and on a short list of the greatest hard rock albums ever. It has always been my personal favorite. I have both the US/UK version (1994 reissue)and the Austrailian one with "Crapsody in Blue" replacing "Problem Child". Angus cemented his status as a six-string legend on all-time classics, "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Bad Boy Boogie", the monster title cut, "Dog Eat Dog" and "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be". I don't think the brothers Young achieved a more bombastic guitar sound (again co-produced by older brother George and Harry Vanda), absolutely phenomenal! Bon also shines as well with his classic double entendre lyrics especially for "Go Down" and "Crabsody". I can't stress enough how AWESOME this album is and how important it was in the history of metal, coming out during the height of punk. In my humble opinion, "Let There Be Rock" may have be equaled, but AC/DC never surpassed this sonic monument.
Grade C
This is the first AC DC album I bought, and one of the first rock albums. The group was raw, in sound and lyrics, and fast and hard. This is also the earliest release I have of them. A lot of the songs were made to be cranked up, and actually sound better, when done so.
THE GOOD
Never really much good in a AC DC release, most of the cds could be made into, pre bon, and post bon. Some catch hooks and the singing is pretty good. Some of their better Bon area songs are on this, GO DOWN, WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE, PROBLEM CHILD, and LET THERE BE ROCK.
THE BAD
Production stinks. But I grew up an BACK IN BLACK, and "Mutt" produced that cd. A cd that all their cds would have to be held up to.
This is a middle of the road cd for the group, not their best, and not their worst. Could have been better, with a better producer.
C.P.O.V.
As with this group, sex, drugs, and hell, is always what they are about. HELL AINT A BAD PALCE TO BE, is about NY city, but they seem to stay there. GO DOWN, is about oral sex. WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE, is a fat whore. Same old songs.-EJW
