Customer Reviews of Let's Get Serious
Hilarious, pointed, and insightful satire This album is a work of genius as it mocks mainstream music conventions. Very witty and very funny. Somewhat brief and not exactly what many would expect from Def Jux but definitely innovative. Well worth picking up for genuine hip-hop connoisseurs.
Seems unpopular looking at these reviews...
Well, I'm a huge fan of Def Jux, and I was most skeptical when I heard of PFAC...then I read these reviews, which make them look pretty bad.
A couple weeks later, I was looking in the clearance bins in Ameoba Music on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley, and saw this. Price: $1.95, and it's new. So, despite how bad the previous reviewers made them look, I picked up their CD.
It's a theme CD, where two "wanksta" (i hate to have to use that word) guys are rooting through demo tapes, to sign some artists onto the rap division of their record label - Bring The Ruckus Records.
The skits inbetween the songs are also hilarious.
Throughout the CD, they impersonate (and make fun of) several different people without saying their names...
Suburban Wannabe Rappers from Wyoming (Mental Storm)
Korn/Limp Bizkit (Whatchu Know Now)
Nelly & Ja Rule (Be My Lady)
R.Kelly (I Shoulda Known)
A Horribly Bad Street Poet (Word Up?)
Boston Frat Brothers (Beer)
MC Paul Barman (Chapstick)
Bad Instrumental DJs (I Am...)
Messed Up Disney Freaks (Peter Pan)
Nostalgic Messed Up People (Back In Da Dais)
The only one that isn't funny is Peter Pan. Which is severely not funny.
My personal favorite is Mental Storm:
"Mentally, Essentially, Meant To Be, Mental
Experimental cerebellum - souped - with lyrical lentils...."
"An eternal verbal whirlwind intertwined in the mind,
with paradox and paradimes and paragraphs - I'm nice with mine."
These two also have great vocal capabilities - I couldn't believe it was less than 4 people before I discovered more about the duo.
The beats don't get boring (it's Blockhead, people) -
and unlike many comedy albums, it has replay value.
So if you want a break from the gritty Def Jux sound, and hear some good comedy, pick this up.
I hate this CD
This CD sucks. What a waste of money and time. I made the mistake of buying it, you shouldn't. I know it's Def Jux but honestly is Def Sux.
