The line-up was otherwise the same: Capt. Donald Craven (Dann Florek), ADA Paul Robinette (Richard Brooks), ADA Benjamin Stone (Michael Moriarty), and DA Adam Schiff (Steven Hill). In the following season, however, Craven will be replaced by Lt. Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson), the show's first regular female character (not counting Carolyn McCormick, who was billed as a featured player). The third season would also be Robinette's last; he will be replaced by Claire Kinkaid (Jill Hennessy) in the fourth. Meanwhile, Florek would go on to join Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 1999 (while Noth would join Law & Order: Criminal Intent in 2005).
During Law & Order's third season, a number of soon-to-be-famous TV actors would put in appearances. They include Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Claire Danes (My So-Called Life), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Edie Falco and Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos), Adam Arkin (Chicago Hope), Michael Badalucco and Camryn Manheim (The Practice), Ron Rifkin (Alias), and Julianna Margulies (E.R.). The Emmy for Best Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, however, was reserved for Broadway dynamo Elaine Stritch in "Point of View." --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Customer Reviews of Law and Order - The Third Year (1992-1993 Season)
Disc flawed Disc one, side one (so far) is flawed: skips, stops, breaks up, etc. Amazon has refused to replace the bad DVD disc. Beware of any DVD sold by Universal as many of their discs are bad.
Outstanding show, bad QC!
My wife turned me onto this show about a month ago. Since then we've bought 6 box sets and been enjoying almost all the episodes. In point of fact, there were some stories that we'd have liked to see extended to double-episode stories.

>I can't add more to the information on the show than others have, so I'm not going to try. Especially considering that this was a network program, the series turned out especially well right from the get-go.
<
>The writing is almost invariablly good, especially the humorous quips between the lawyers and judges. The only writing complaint I had was the episode about the hackers infiltrating the hospitatl. The level of technophobe technological ignorance displayed was appalling. Not only did the writer have no real knowledge of computers, the knowledge of hospital equipment was equally panic-stricken, paranoiic, and faulty. Kinda spoils the suspension of disbelief when you know more about technology than the writer did. A little basic research would have told him that what he was proposing simply wasn't possible. I haven't seen anything that attrocious since a Season1 episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

>The biggest problem we've run into with the DVD sets in the series, though, is quality control. The double-sided DVDs, fresh from the factory, arrive scratched. These scratches have made several episodes unwatchable. If it happened once, that's an isolated incident. When it happens to 6 DVDs in 3 box sets, that's bad quality control. We turned one box set in because of the defect, only to have a different disk turn out defective. Our season 3 box set has had 5 different episodes damaged. So whatever you do, save your receipts! And be prepared to make multiple trips to the store from which you purchased the set.
L&O year 3
My wife and I have loved this show since it's inception. The characters are always solid and the storylines are always filled with intrigue. If you've not watched Law & Order, you're missing out on great drama. Same goes with all of it's spin-offs (Criminal Intent & SVU). I can only hope they catch up with all the seasons on DVD. A must have!
