Confessions for the Musically Disenchanted
Are you sick of all the male fueled, so called"alternative" rock bands, currently monopolizing theairwaves? What happened to the dayz when truly "cutting edge" artists like PJ Harvey or Throwing Muses used to be in the mix? If you hear one more indie rock/pop band that sounds a little like "that one band" are you going to be nauseous? Then we have something in common and I have a truly remarkable and important Artist for you! See Jane Run has been around for over five years now and currently have three records under their belt. But their most recent, "last Night's Dream", is the best to date. It's one of the most satisfying and inspiring records I have listened to in a long time. The sound is definitely reminiscent of early Throwing Muses/Kristin Hersh with a touch of David Bowie(The Glam years of course!)and a dash of The Smiths. The lyrics are beautiful and intelligent, with striking metaphors and kick ass harmonies. The music is wonderfully varied, mostly breaking away from the traditional 4/4 count. In that way, one might even venture to mention "Prog Rock"...But I wouldn't! There is way too much "pop" sensibility in their sound to go that far. Highlight tracks are High Ground, Full Circle and Holding Tank. If I had more time I could go and on but I must get back to the daily grind! If you are a San Francisco local or plan to visit anytime soon, you can catch this bands live show at a number of venues around town. Also, every year they put on "Riot Act", an evening of music with a wildly varied line-up. All proceeds are donated to W.O.M.E.N (women organized to make abuse nonexistent)...
