Customer Reviews of Last Exile - First Move (Vol. 1) With Collector's Box
Certainly one of the best anime series released Last Exile is a beautiful anime, blending CG and drawn anime seamlessly to create characters that stir you into feeling their successes and mourning their losses and a storyline that is moving and easy to follow. Looking at the quality of the trailers and clips, it seems that Pioneer has done this series justice in providing the dvd with clean visuals and a stunning dolby digital soundtrack.
Last Exile is about Claus and Lavie, a boy and a girl who struggle to follow in their fathers' footsteps and be the best Vanship pilots in the world of Prester. By delivering a curious little girl called Alvis to the battleship Sylvana, they enter a world and a war where their skill and courage will be the key to not only their survival but of all.
You'll wish you were a part of this world in the sky...
Please disregard the editorial review that has been provided by Amazon. I could only imagine that someone who had fast forwarded through the first few episodes could possibly say the things that Charles Solomon wrote.
absolutely breathtaking in every sense of the word
As a preface, I don't watch a lot of anime. I enjoy it but I usually only like the really popular cliche series' like cowboy bebop, neon genesis evangelion, gundam wing, trigun, stuff like that. I've been wanting a new series to watch and I was in the store the other day and just happened to see this box set of Last Exile, which I'd never even heard of before. I usually don't do this, but I was feeling adventurous and the box looked cool, so I bought it. And man oh man, I'm definitely not sorry I did. The fusion of traditional 2d and 3d cg in this show is nothing short of awe-inspiring. I've never before been so impressed with just the look of an anime alone. The world of Prester that the show is set in is an absolutely fascinating meld of mid 19th century germany, Revolution period colonial life, and Skies of Arcadia (if you've ever played that before). That probably doesn't make any sense so you'll just have to buy the dvd and see for yourself how cool this is. The characters are interesting and the voice acting is spot on. What I love so much about this series is that you can tell every second that the creators didn't cheap out on the audience. You may know what I mean if you've watched shows where 3 or 4 frames of animation are used over and over again, and lots of time it will just hold on one still frame, with voice acting over it and you just have to imagine the movement that would be going on. Most people look at that as an art form, to me it's cheap. Last exile never does that at all, every scene reminds you of the big budget special effects scene that every movie has but it just doesn't end in this show.
I'm loving it so far, I can't wait until I can find somebody that has vol. 2 in stock. Buy it, you'll love it.
Great beginning
This anime is a great beginning to the series. It opens up a world of flight, and adventure. If you are a fan of Action/Adventure, this is for you.
