Customer Reviews of Last Day of Summer
Pink Pops On Deriving their sound from the likes of Cheap Trick, Big Star, ELO and Material Issue, Bay Area pop stalwarts Barely Pink release yet another incendiary cd onto the "in the know" power pop fans around Tampa and around the world. Their inflammatory popularity in Japan makes them too cool for our school but that's never stopped us before. What threatens to be the best power pop release of the still new decade, Last Days of Summer harkens back to the days when the Move stalked the earth with their Brontosaurus and, Cheap Trick made me realize that I Can't Take It and Material Issue wrote every song with a girl's name in the chorus.
Girl in the Crowd has to be the smartest pop hook known to man while Do What You Like makes us all wanna grab a girl and dance. Mercury Girl makes us cry and California evokes a road trip. The Strongest One, , Firebug and GHurt You Any Less onfuse me and Simple Enough, Sixteen's Gone and Mood Meter Maid makes us all wanna sing. The early even pressings come with a great Barely Pink sticker that got caught in my hair and required an emergency trip to Super Cuts but how can I hold that against them?
You need to buy this cd.
The best thing this summer
This is a great album, my friends and I all purchased a copy of this at a live show, and we were blown away. California and Sixteens gone are my personal favorite, but it is definately one of those CD's that I like play all the way through.
Having seen the band live, it is refreshing to hear the album that captures the great live sound and is not overdone in the studio.
Great buy.
Barely Pink does it again!
If you're reading this you've
probably already heard the Power Pop Princes BARELY PINK from their first three CDs, or if you're a Big Star fan, their kick-ass version of "In the Street." For those of you who haven't,
you're in for a Power Pop feast if you pick up their new release "The Last Day of Summer" that has just been released by Not Lame Records.
I was first made aware of this band through a cover of The Raspberries "Tonight." After chatting with lead singer
(and co-writer) Brian Merrill, and downloading several tracks off of their own site:

I was convinced this was one of the very few "modern" bands that actually "got" what true power pop really is, and had still created a fresh, new sound of their own producing this type of music.
