The DVD-7050 provides Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound decoding via its coaxial and optical digital audio outputs. It also offers the following video connection options:
- Composite A/V: 1
- S-Video: 1
- Component video: 1
Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
Dolby Digital provides up to 5.1 channels of surround sound from the following speakers: front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right, and an additional channel exclusively reserved for additional deep bass sound effects. Dolby DigitalÕs main channels can all contain full range sound information, from the lowest bass, up to the highest frequencies--22 kHz. The signals within each channel are distinct from the others, allowing pinpoint sound imaging and tremendous dynamic range from the most powerful sound effects to the quietest, softest sounds, free from noise and distortion.

Customer Reviews of Lasonic DVD-7050 DivX-Certified Progressive-Scan DVD Player
Don't buy this! You will waste your money if you buy this. At first it worked fine, but then 3 months later it would not turn on. I called lasonic and no one answered or returned my call.
Not a bad little player
For what it's worth, I bought this player a while ago (back when it was $36), and use it almost everyday. I love it. I actually have two DIVX decks (an LG and this Lasonic) and the Lasonic is the one I use everyday. I especially like the instant-skip feature someone else talked about (not mentioned in the manual). It's not perfect but I've never had any problems with it, and use it practically every night, mostly for DIVX/AVI watching. It's a cheap machine, but does its job well for a good price (though now at $55 it's not so much of a deal as it was back when it was $36 from Amazon) but for anyone considering this: it has its quirks but has some neat features too. If you want a top-of-the-line machine get something else, but if you want a daily workhorse that is cheap enough to replace later on if anything goes wrong (and so far mine has worked just fine) consider this. I really hate the Philips 642. I like the LG, of course that was $149 (got on sale for $129).

Took my chance and paid the price (Lasonic 7050)
I bought this dvd player from another site, primarily for the fact that it will play almost any format known to man, which it does very well. The only format that this thing doesn't play is the .RM/RAM format or the real player format but that format stinks anyway so who cares?

>Pros; Decent quality picture, plays any format you can throw at it, slim profile so it can be squeezed in anywhere(not recommended see below), in expensive, has progressive scanning, can run on 120 or 240 volts, has the ability to play NTSC and PAL format which is really fantastic, and the best feature of all ... the thing is region free, because of this player I totally ignored what part of the world I ordered my Dvds from.

>If you're a movie buff like me then this is a really great feature. Heard about that insane Japanese movie that's on dvd but can't watch it because it's not region one? No problem this'll play it. Our British friends across the pond have a UK release DVD with more special features that the US release, ha, then I'll just order the Uk DVD not a problem.

>Lastly as someone mentioned, a feature I miss terribly, the 10 second skip button. I have since found myself looking for this apparently insignificant feature on other players It doesn't sound like much but, it's like a cell phone, once you've had it you can't ever imagine how you got along without it in the first place, it's that handy a feature.

>Now the Cons:( As I mentioned above, not a good idea to put any dvd in a confined space, but since we're all guilty of it, DO NOT do it with this dvd player. It will shut down on you and not play again till it cools off. You will know if it shuts down from ecessive heat because this thing will get really hot on you, mine did anyway. It plays fine again once it cools down but you've been warned.

>Also since they mention it in the manual it's worth mentioning here, once in a while it will lock up for no apparent reason and freeze on you. You may get just a picture, just sound, just a load screen, or just pretty pixels dancing across the screen. It happens often enough to be an annoyance but you'll need to reboot and reset it often. I use....correction used mine everyday and it needed to be reset once every other week.

>Minor complaints but, the remote conrtol setup is counter intuitive, owned mine for a few months and after literally using it every day I still have to glance down at the remote to make sure I'm FFwding and not skipping an entire chapter. Also when you burn your files to a disk, it won't put all the folders on the top or list all mpeg, avi and jpeg files together like other players do so if you plan to use this for discs you burn yourself, prepare to be annoyed or to rename all your folders as 1111... 1112 etc (if you try symbols or my favorite the _underscore_ then it puts the folders last).

>Lastly, and this is the biggy, the quality of this thing is not the worst but not the best either, like another reviewer, I have had it die on me and give me a scare for no apparent reason, resetting etc did not work and it was in a cool dry place, it just did not feel like working that day. Just last week it died on me and I think it may be for ggod this time. It hit the power button and the light comes on for 3 seconds then it loses power. the unit is effectively dead which forces me to try to find another region free divx enabled dvd player. I bought the unit a few months ago. It's pathetic that an alleged brand new unit should die on a consumer so quickly. Bottom line: But this dvd player at your own risk.
