Customer Reviews of LapWorks Laptop Legs
fatal flaw -- poor adhesive great idea, poor execution. <
> <
>the anti-skid patches only contact the surface of the desk when the legs are closed. <
> <
>the fatal flaw, however, is the adhesive used to attach the legs to the laptop itself. remember: these legs are touted as the solution to the computer getting too hot, solving the problem by letting more air circulate under the machine. great idea! <
> <
>now check out how you're supposed to remove the legs if you decide to take them off: first heat them up with a hair dryer, then peel them off. here's an interesting point: a laptop that gets too hot will produce just as much heat as a hair dryer, ergo the fatal flaw. when the computer gets hot, the adhesive softens up and lets go, and the laptop slides off the legs. even if the legs are not extended, the computer will slide off the legs, leaving it uneven and unstable. <
> <
>maybe i can find some other kind of adhesive to use, one that won't be totally undermined by the very heat it's supposed to alleviate. if i can find something that works, i'll change this rating to a 5.
Great for large laptops, but before you buy...
Consider buying it elsewhere.

>The legs are perfect for large laptops. My own is a 17" widescreen. And although there are three vents on its underside, making placement asymmetrical, it is not so much so as to affect the stability of the laptop resting on a surface. There is a definite improvement in airflow and typing elevation (Two different elevations). Good airflow keeps your processor and hard drive cool, improving the life of the machine.

Great idea, poor execution
I had a Gateway laptop eight years ago (with a 13.3" XGA screen) that had the exact same feature built-in. It was incredibly useful and well-designed - whenever I put it on a table, I'd lift up the back of the notebook, slide my index fingers under it and click two buttons which pop out little spring-loaded plastic "legs". The angle made it much more pleasant to type on, and of course a good side effect is better ventilation. I've never found a notebook since which had this feature, not even Gateway's newer models.

>So I was understandably excited to buy these legs and try them out. While the idea is great, the execution is poor. These legs, even when retracted, measure 1/3" high! Which means that if you have a slim notebook, like I do (1.2" thick), applying these legs will make it seem a lot thicker. Unappealing. The footprint is large too (2" by 1.75"). My laptop's underside is covered with air vents, stickers and screws, so finding an appropriate spot large enough to apply a leg was almost impossible, let alone two. The plastic used for its construction is third-rate. Overall, pass on this product.

>ps. my package included one pair of legs only, unlike the previous reviewer who received two pairs.
