over-thought
The story is good, but the pacing and layout is terrible. Pages will go by with no illustrations at all, and then when an illustration appears it is usually so small as to lack impact.

>This is ironic, because in his interview Shyamalan talks about how important pacing and layout are, and how carefully they put it together citing the perfect marriage of word and image in books like Where the Wild Things Are. Well, he must've over-thought the whole thing too much, because the layout is so clunky and unintuitive as to make the entire reading experience awkward and unpleasant.

>It's a terrible waste, because the story itself is rather interesting. However, pacing and layout are SO important in a picture book that his muddled and over-thought attempt render the whole thing practically unreadable. Maybe I'll warm up to it over time, but I think the opposite is more likely.
A Story For All Ages
I bought this book because I am a HUGE M. Night fan! I did read these reviews before I purchased the book so I knew what I was buying. But I did know it was going to be good no matter what. I love this story! I will never see a swimming pool the same, or my backyard! Great for the kids and adults! It has a great fantasy move to it, but keeping it almost real too. I'm going to read this every night until the release of his movie! This is why M. Night is my hero!!!
