Customer Reviews of Knit Double Headrest - Yellow
Intended to Provide Cushion & Comfort-Not Total Neck Support I've read through some of the negative reviews this headrest has received and think many have been disappointed because they expect that this pillow can provide total support to a newborn's head and neck by itself -it won't. If you're looking, however, for something to make the carseat and swing more comfortable and cushy - this headrest is awesome! Our newborn had reflux and spent a good deal of time sleeping in his swing -so we needed something to make him extra comfortable, and I really appreciate the molded (forms to the carseat or swing!), double-layer design for this. As your baby grows, you can remove one of the layers - very neat! To provide total head and neck support for your newborn, you'll still need to roll up some receiving blankets and place them on either side of your infant. At one point, we no longer needed to use the rolled-up receiving blankets, but still kept the headrest in our swing. I think we finally put this headrest away after 6 mos. of use. Note: This headrest is not recommended for use in carseats as a result of safety concerns, so it's up to you. We did use it in our carseat for a few months (a screaming infant will make parents take desperate measures!!) Hopefully this review clears up some misconceptions about this pillow and you can make an informed decision!
Use common sense. Not a big deal
Yes this double headrest is not approved for your car seat. Most are not unless they were manufactured and used in the crash test with your car seat. No accessory for a car seat is approved because that would be nearly impossible to do since they all need to be crash tested with your individual car seat. And by law the hospital has to tell you they are not approved. And those who make car seats care only about making sure their car seat won't harm your child. They can care less about the accessories millions of us buy every year.

>What does that mean? Well that means we all have to use our brains. If your childs head drifts to one side and slams into the car seat frequently when you drive, slow down. Remember this was crash tested and passed. If you install this little gadget and the head stops rolling around, you are probably safe for the most part. But you are certainly taking a risk since it has not "officially" been tested in a crash while using your car seat. But think about that for a second, has all the other accessories in your vehicle been crash tested with the car seat. What about the hot coffee you have in the front seat, wouldn't that burn the child in a crash. How about the cell phone glued to your ear, wouldn't that distract the driver and cause harm to your child. Or how about mountain of groceries neatly secured in "paper" bags in the back of your fancy SUV. Won't those cans of soup or 2 liters become projectiles and do harm to your child, probably. The question is how far you go to be safe.

>I would hardly worry about this little harmless piece of cloth harming my child. It's just a huge disclaimer so no one gets sued in my opinion. I liked it and felt like it helped my kid. But I felt bad using it, after all our kids need more tummy time in order to build up those neck muscles that make it necessary to endure such strain.

I'm a little concerned
I know this product must work, I mean it worked fine for us, but my baby was born at 10 lbs. When I found out that it wasn't approved for my carseat though, I took it out. I think they should make specialty headrests for each seat, which some carseats do. I had a problem with the headrest for my carseat though, because it didn't support my first baby's head. That's why I bought this one.
