Customer Reviews of Kite
a new world Everytime I think I am a mature anime viewer, I rent something someone 'suggests' to me, and am bowled over. I was in BestBuy and a dude suggested I watch Kite, since I liked NScroll and VHD, though Kite is nothing along those lines. He asked if I'd seen Wicked City, I said 'Yeah I love that'. He said well then you'll love Kite, you're a girl and you like Henche movies. I said what?? Henche movies, what are those? He wrote down this website and said lookup these movie clips and rent Kite; she was so Bada>>ss...Though the ending the very very ending made me angry I loved the characters even the baddies. Her cohort in the film is also an orphan vigilante working for the crooked cops as is she. They develop a strange kinship in the film that directs Kite's actions into the climax. I didn't see the DVD but the animation on the VHS was quite rich and colorful, dubbing was good, and voice-acting on point. I only wish it were longer.
Not for everyone, but damn good
If you're the squeamish type, let me just get this out of the way right now: this show has an above-average amount of gore in it. This is definitely a warning directed towards any parents out there thinking that because this is a cartoon that it is appropriate for children. Think again. That being said:
This is a fantastic anime. I'd classify it in a category such as extreme-action, as the assassinations and various other action sequences are incredibly violent. There's some seriously awesome gunplay here, something most John Woo fans will love.
The part that sold me on the five star rating though is the fact that throughout the film there's an actual story at work, and a good one at that. This is definitely something refreshing for an action-oriented anime.
The DVD version I bought was very well done, with an extremely clear picture and some unbelievable sound. I found myself backing up through the action sequences to watch them again, cranking the volume.
If you like action-oriented anime, especially ones with actual engaging storylines, give Kite a whirl.
A Little Too Much
I usually like a little darkness in anime shows; however the uncut version was just a bit too much. Frankly if you get a kick out of men taking advantage of young girls, don't hesitate to check it out. The movie was about a young girl who gets tricked into working for the very man who killed her family. She is trained to be a killer by her family's murderer and goes around killing people. She meets up with another guy assasin who is closer to her age; and of course, they fall in love. Then of course, she is supposed to kill him. In the end they both get revenge on the bad guys; but, like all anime, there is that little twist in the end. Blah, blah blah.
This movie left me feeling dirty and depressed. For anyone who gets their kicks out of sick shows and love being shocked, this is your movie. If you would rather watch a show that has some darkness, but yet some deep meaning, watch "Now and Then, Here and There", "Hellsing", or "Battle Angel". At least there is some discretion used in these movies and series.
