Customer Reviews of Kiss - Rock the Nation Live
Fun and Exciting Recent KISS Concert! Before viewing this DVD the only thing I was concerned about was if Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer could credibly mimic Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. I was particularly concerned about Thayer. All I had to hear was the first two songs, "Love Gun" and "Deuce," to quell my worries. Tommy sounds precisely like Frehley and Eric Singer kicks a$$. In addition, they physically resemble Frehley and Criss, at least as far as body type, size and posture. <

>Yes, it would've been great to have the original band together, but I'd rather see a band that has fun together and WANTS to be on the stage entertaining the masses. If this means replacing Ace and Peter, so be it. <

>The concert was filmed in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2004, so it's very recent. Do these older rockers still have 'it'? Absolutely. As far as their visual image, KISS has the perfect gimmick to hide their aging. Don't get me wrong, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley look great for men well into their 50's, but the face paint gives the illusion that they've hardly aged at all since, say, 1978. <

>As to the performance, I have to admit that I've never attended a KISS concert in my life (although I've HEARD their live albums, of course) so this was kind of a treat for me. KISS in concert are what you'd expect: theatrical, energetic, fun and thrilling. They're no doubt one of the most entertaining hard music acts to see, if not THE best. A friend told me that Aerosmith had KISS open for them a few years ago and KISS blew them out of the water. The guys in Aerosmith must be NUTS to perform after KISS! How could you possibly top KISS? <

>The song selection is nice and diverse. I was happy to see "Love Gun," "Deuce," "Making Love," "She," "Tears Are Falling," "I Want You," "Parasite," "War Machine," "100,000 Years," "I Was Made for Loving You" (I don't care if it flirts with disco, it's a great song) and "Detroit Rock City" on the track list. <

>One thing I've noticed about KISS (as opposed to, say, Iron Maiden) is that women LOVE them. So you'll see quite a few clips of cute girls, young and old, in the crowd. And, don't worry, it's all fun and clean. <

>I was quite suprised by the personable and family-friendly persona of the band members, in particular Paul and Gene. Paul's patriotic and godly rant before "God Gave Rock & Roll to You" was unexpected, warm and highly welcomed by this viewer. My respect has increased for them one hundred-fold after viewing this DVD. <

>Buy this DVD and see KISS kick a$$ in concert -- it's a blast!

<
>The only negatives that you will read after three pages are whines and rants about Eric and Tommy wearing the Cat and Space make up, or Gene's decades long marketing genius.

>Just what in hell is wrong with marketing? Are we to think that every successful Rock $ Roll act in history wasn't the result of successful marketing?

>I am the most pitiful Kiss fan; only a decade younger than Gene Klein and I came to these reviews only to determine if the production values or the performances were up to par and this DVD is just what you would expect from KISS - AMAZING (do you really think Gene would let any thing less than outstanding loose on the world?

>We certainly miss Peter and Ace, but isn't it nice that we have such amazing talent standing in their stead?
Great DVD
I think this DVD is great - it is a 2-DVD set with interviews and bonus footage of the group without makeup. It features Paul, Gene, Tommy and Eric Singer. I think it is well worth purchasing if you are a long-time KISS fan or a recent fan!
