Customer Reviews of Kirby's Dreamland
The beginning of Kirby... In 1992, Nintendo released a little-known action/adventure game known as Kirby's Dream Land, starring a cutesy little hero who could eat just about anything. At the time, Nintendo must not have known just how big the little guy would become. Read on for my review.
Graphics: About what you'd expect from the classic Game Boy, and sadly, that means a lot of blurring. 3/5
Play Control: Very simplistic, as most early Game Boy titles were. 3.5/5
Challenge: This game isn't very long, and it's not that big of a challenge, though it has its tough moments. 2.5/5
Theme/Fun: The biggest flaw of this game is that Kirby doesn't have the power to steal the abilities of his foes. Rather, he must suck his foes in and spit them back at other foes. There are a few items, but you really don't need them to win. This is probably Kirby's weakest adventure, sadly enough. 3/5
Sound/Music: Very cutesy music and sound effects which suit the game perfectly. 4/5
Storyline: An evil tyrant has stolen all the food in Dream Land. A young warrior must set out to recover it! Very cheesy storyline... 2.75/5
Originality: This game added a few new twists to the world of side-scrolling platformers, but nothing too revolutionary. 2.75/5
Replay Value: Sadly, there isn't much. 1.5/5
Overall Score: 3/5
Kirby's first adventure isn't for everybody. In fact, I really don't recommend playing this game unless you're a die-hard Kirby fan who wants to play the hero's first game, and even then, I only suggest renting this game, not buying it. Recommended titles in the series are Kirby's Adventure (AKA Nightmare In Dream Land), which is available on the NES and GBA, and Kirby Super Star, for the SNES. This one's strictly mediocre as far as the series goes...
Short'n easy, but addicting!!!
Ironically, this was my second Kirby game that i brought. The first Kirby game i had brought was Dreamland 2. Even though it's the easiest game in my Video Game library, it's still great. I've played it several times and yet, i'm not yet bored of the game. It was basic and all, yet great. Ya see, i have a policy about games. Every vacations (winter midwinter, summer, regents week, etc, i replay all of my gameboy games (old and new) that way, i won't be bored, and i wouldn't be neglecting them. The graphics and the music i felt were good and the gameplay was average.
Not as good.
In the game Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland was way better. This game you do not even get powers and the bosses are short. If you like this game, you will like Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland.
