Customer Reviews of Kathy Smith's Latin Rhythm Workout
I barely broke a sweat The Latin band and dancers were great fun, but I would recommend the video only to people who are brand new to working out and to dancing. I've got some experience and felt like I wasn't working at all. I went through the tape once and will give it away.
Probably in an attempt to make the dance steps as easy as possible, Kathy Smith focuses for too long on each one. Each segment of the video uses just one step, which you do over and over with only minor variations. There's very little upper body involvement, so it's hard to increase the intensity unless you get pretty far from the basic choreography.
If you're looking for a more involving Latin aerobics tape, I highly recommend Viva! Aerobics by Elise Foss. She uses many of the same basic steps but combines them in much more interesting ways, plus she involves the upper body and makes it easy to add intensity. She's also fun and engaging.
Kathy Smith's Latin Workout
This workout is perfect for those days when I really don't feel like huffing and puffing through a workout. Days when I know I SHOULD do some kind of exercise, but can't motivate myself for something more exerting. It's a really fun video to do, you don't burn near as many calories, as say a Cathe Friedrich video, but at least it motivates you to move (and isn't that the whole point?)! Steps are really easy to learn, and finally I learned something in a "dance" fitness video that I can take to a dance floor. It's one that I probably won't do every day, being an intermediate exerciser, but certainly one I'd do at least once a week, on those days when I'm in a slump. I'd recommend it just for that reason, cause we ALL have those days. I never turn down the opportunity to do this video! Very fun.
THIS IS FUN!!!
At least I thought so! I keep up a very tight workout schedule, and "mix up" my workouts to include weights and aerobics. I just tried the "Latin Rythym Workout," and it was great...all I need now is a partner! I would say that I am an "intermediate" in aerobics, and believe it or not, I was having such a good time (as were my animals watching me!) the time flew by and the first section was finished before I knew it. My heart rate was mildly elevated, but as with most aerobics, once one knows the moves, or keeps it up, one can "pump it up," so to speak. I went right into the second section, and could not finish because the dancing kept up-tempo, and as I really "got into it," I felt that I had "had it," so to speak. If you are looking for something a little different to add to your aerobic routines, try the Latin Dancing...the dancers are excellent, and one has to give Kathy Smith an "A" for keeping her workouts fresh, plus she's actually pretty good! A live band really adds to the atmosphere, and one can make the most of this workout. Mainly, this workout is fun. It is perfect for beginners, and as one progresses, one can really get into the moves and "dance" to the whole tape. What is even better, if you are ever invited to go "clubbin'," you will NOT be left behind since you are learning some of the most popular and fun Latin dancing steps: The Merenge', the Cha Cha, and the Salsa. Very fun, effective, and truly an added "spice" to any workout for beginner's to intermediate. Just be ready to get those hips and legs movin'!
