Customer Reviews of Just Plain Daffy
Don't Go by the May 1999 Review for This Video! I just wanted to point out that the review for this video done in May 1999 by "viewer" is incorrect!
"Birth of a Notion", "Conrad the Sailor", "The Up-Standing Sitter", and "What Makes Daffy Duck" are NOT on this video collection despite what he or she says in their review. Instead, you get the other 4 cartoons, "Ain't That Ducky", "Daffy Duck Slept Here", "Hollywood Daffy", and "The Wise Quacking Duck" along with these 4:
"Duck Soup to Nuts"
"Tick Tock Tuckered"
"Nasty Quacks"
"Along Came Daffy"
"Duck Soup to Nuts" is not bad but the other 3 are mediocre and of the other 4, only "The Wise Quacking Duck" is a memorable short. This is a big difference considering that both "Birth of a Notion" and "What Makes Daffy Duck" are 2 of the best pre-greedy Daffy cartoons that were made.
Thank goodness I caught this error in time or I would have been severely upset!
Daffy at his best.
I have seen this video hundreds of times and everytime I have laughattacks probably the best short from this video is "Daffy Duck Slept Here". Daffy Duck is the wackiest Duck around! You should really buy this video which includes 8 shorts!
If you love Daffy Duck, you will want to buy this video
This made a proud addition to my collection of shorts featuring my favourite cartoon character, Daffy Duck.
Note: The ratings are based on the system teachers use to grade school-children.
Ain't that Ducky Directed by: Friz Freleng A good one! Features a carictature of actor Victor More which is voiced by himself! Some truely inspired ags, my favourite being the one where Daffy warns the animators that J.L will hear of them not supplying him with the right props. Rating: A
Birth of a notion Directed by: Robert Mckimson Another carictature, this time of Peter Lorre, though not his real voice ( though a darn good imitatation! ).Nothing especialy brilliant, but some entertaining jokes. Rating: B
Daffy Duck slept here Directed by: Robert Mckimson Possibley the funniest cartoon ever made on the subject of one character's insomnia caused by a fellow cartoon character! Rating: A-
Hollywood Daffy Directed by: Friz Freleng Some jokes are a little forced, but others come off greatley. Favourite gag: Jack Beany trying to catch an Oscar with a claw one sees in a teddy bear machine. Rating: B
Conrad the sailor Directed by: Chuck Jones An improvent over the earlier shorts featuring conrad cat, those being "The bird came C.O.D" and "Porky's cafe", but this can't hold a candle to the above shorts. The first two minutes or so are great, but after that there are few truely great moments. The film has a running gag which I don't find funny. Rating: C-
The up-standing sitter Directed by: Robert Mckimson Sorry to give a totaly negative review, but I truely dislike this cartoon. Daffy seems to be the right character for the short for the first minute, but after that seems to have been added on in a febel attempt to improve a terrible short. All in all, this makes "Conrad the cat" look like "Ain't that Ducky". Rating: D-
The wise quacking duck Directed by: Robert Clampett The compilation reddems itself after the last two shorts. This one comes second only to "Ain't that Ducky". Rating: A
What makes Daffy Duck Directed by: Arthur Davis This is the short that inspired the famous 1951-53 hunters troligy. Confidentialy I'd pick this over that any day. Rating: B+
Daffy Duck cartoon festival featuring "Ain't that Ducky" Despite featuring one stinker, and one bellow par short, I truely loved it. Grade: A
