Customer Reviews of John Lyons' Perfect Horse
Okay Info This magazine has some good trainting and horse care tips, but I think it is overpriced. Also, the title is pretty lame. I mean, c'mon, trust me I know, there is NO such thing as a perfect horse. <
>I wouldn't waist my money.
Good Base to Build
John Lyon's has taken what good horsetrainers have done for years and put into an easily read and digested format. His methods of horse management and training reflect the current trends in this field. The magazine is thin, but full of information. I personally like the fact the magazine comes pre-punched for insertion into a three-ring binder. This allows you to have your collection with you at the barn or at an event. Lyon's articles provide information for the novice to the expert. The writing style is crisp and concise. Overall I recommend this for all horseowners whether they are seeking to train their own horse or not. The management techniques and tips are essential to help keep and maintain horses of all levels and disciplines. This is not really a magazine for a non-horse owner. The tips and techniques need to be applied to be effective. A horse lover who does not own a horse may not fully appreciate or understand some of Lyon's nuances.
A good investment for the horse owner
I really like John Lyon's training methods and I've read several of his books in his "Perfect Horse" series and "Lyons on Horses". I prefer the series of books rather than the publication just because you're basically getting the same information but in a more organized lesson form. I like the idea of the ad-free format and I'm willing to pay more for a skinny, add-free magazine, but Lyons tends to push his own training products and books quite aggressively, along with products from companies that he has endorsement deals with. He also likes to throw in biblical quotes.
Lyon's teaches a kind, safe, patient method of training that emphasizes working on your horse from the ground before tackling riding. It works with any horse and just about any discipline or riding. He doesn't give riding lessons, so don't think you'll be learning to ride, but if you take his lead, you'll be a better horseman.
